Bought a new stereo for my car.
Kinda stumped on the best place to ground it.
I was thinking the shift cable bracket, but idk.

If your talking about a head unit you ground it to the stock ground wire that the stock head unit hooks up to.

The plug-in harness/adapter I bought for it does not have a ground hook up.
It has all the power, speaker channels, and illumination.
Radio has all that, and a black ground wire.

There should be a ground wire from your stock head unit. Unless your talking about an amp?

dude just find a solid metal place to ground it and, ground it. mine was grounded to the metal casing that makes up the dash but rerouted it to under my seat w/ my 2 amps and just grounded all 3 to the chasis.

In the 2g, look at the 2DIN hole... now look at the top left in the back there... theres a bolt. Loosen it a little... now, crimp an eye loop onto the end of your black (ground) wire... put the eye loop onto that bolt and twist it back in.

if you took out the whole console pannel (which i had to do XD) there are some bolts near the shifter (well, the auto at least...) they provide good ground, if not just use a tester light hooked up to the hot wire and search away :)

I grounded it to a piece of metal in the dash and it works just fine. lol

Would bad grounding cause poor radio reception?

Good to hear you got it all wired in and done. A bad ground will ususally cause your radio to have power spurts. It can kick on and off. I think you could have a bad signal too if the ground isnt too strong. But the main problem is the powering issue.

you know whats funny ... i took advantage of the free installation @ best buy, and they told me they didnt make pockets under the stereo for the 99 gsx models.
but good work though. looks better than my ****.

The factory radio didn't give me any real reception. I bet I got like 2 stations at my house and just about that in a major city. With my 2002 S-10 Xtreme, I can get tons of stations at my house.
I replaced the factory radio thinking it was the problem, but even with the new radio, I still only get a couple stations if that. The antenna works and goes up properly, but I'm just not sure why the reception is that bad. Could the antenna itself be bad/faulty? If so, how would you check?

I have an empty pocket under my radio. You can buy them at small owned radio shops. I have mine loaded with so much crap it isnt funny.

That would be the pocket.
I don't know if you guys know this...I'm sure y'all do...but the aftermarket dash kit with the pocket has a tiny opening. It's about the size of an empty wallet. When I had mine, I don't think I could have stuck 2 CD cases in there one on top of each other. The Bosch one had a slightly larger pocket, but still smaller than the stock pocket. The stock pocket has a full din size opening. Just FYI
