I got a 2003 Eclipse GT. It has a V6 in it and i was wondering if i could take the engine out of a 3000GT since they are both the 6G72 engines. Im not sure if they would mount up the same or anything. Or if i could just take the internals and swap them into the eclipse engine?

im curious as to why you want to switch the motors??

The problems you're run into when attempting this "swap":

1.)The intake manifold is completely different. It will not clear a stock hood clearance.
2.)Ttransmission is located on oppostie side. Eclipse's transmission is located on the driver's side, 3/S is on the passenger's. You might be able to pull it off, but you're gonna need custom motor/transmission mounts since the chassis is different.
3.)Hood clearance problem also applies to the valve cover, due to different head.
4.)3/S ECU will most unlikely be able to drive the stock gauges.

And if you were going to ask if we can do a 3/S DOHC head conversion, that won't work. Bolt pattern is different.

Just a little something i read elsewhere.

Aight well i heard about people putting the 4g63 engines in a 2003 eclipse. How would that work and if it wouldnt what would be the best thing for me to do to squeeze some power out of that car.

it is a v6 right headers intake exhaust and so on.

headers and a high flow car/test pipe evidently REALLY bring the 3g v6 alive...

If you are going to be doing an engine swap use the EVO platform. Those are pretty much plug and play with the 3G's and it has been done before.

but going to a 4 cylinder will posess all of the mounting issues that putting in a 3000gt 6g72

im a firm believer that people who have limited mechanical knowledge and have to ask whether something will fit or not have no business in trying to pull off an uncommon engine swap. That is if they value their time and money. Just my two cents.

although I have never dealt with RIPP, I have heard good things and bad things. There have been numberous successful installs of the SDS, but there have also been the cases where the car will sit in RIPP's garage for 3 months before anybody can figure out what the problem is. and the prices are outragous.

RIPP has gotten better of the past couple of months after doing a major overhaul of their staff.

terrymarron...have you thought about turbo'ing your V6?
