I Just Bought A 92' 3000GT VR-4 And I Want To Know What Kind Of Modifications I Need To Make To Beat An EVO VIII. My Friend Has An EVO VIII And He's Never Been Beaten. Its Kinda Getting To His Head If You Know What I Mean. He's Getting Really Cocky And He's Starting To Make Fun Of People's Cars. I Just Want To Show Him That An EVO VIII Can Be Beaten And That They Aren't The Fastest. I Really Don't Like The Person His Turning Into. Please let Me Know.

do you really need any mod? you should leave him to dust already with a 3000GT VR4.. *dr00ls@EVO VIII and 3000GT VR4* Wish I got money to buy them,.,

Stock for stock it really should be a drivers race, both AWD cars similar HP/lb ratios. The EVO may be a little quicker due to gearing, but the 3Kgt should be catching up at the long end of the track.

Good luck with the race, let us know how it turns out.

OK, Here Are The Results.....

1st Race: EVO VIII
2nd Race: VR-4
3rd Race: VR-4

OK, So I Won 2 Of 3. I Lost The First Race Because I Had A Bad Launch. I Still Need To Learn How To Lauch It. The Bad News Is That I Think I Messed Up My Timing Belt. Something Is Making A Weird Noise And Im Not Sure If Its Coming From The Cams Or The Valves. When I Accelerate, The Noise Gets Louder. Any Clue What It Is?

No idea what the noise could be. Is it a knock, or a tick, or more like a whine?

Good job getting 2 outa 3. Evo's are pretty fast.

Thank You. It Sounds More Like A Knock And Like A Tick. I Think I Might Have My Mom's Boyfriend Look At It. He Just Got Hired As A Mechanic For Laguna Seca. He Was Working For Toyota Before. He Might Know.

If you were launching hard it is possible to cause the t-belt to skip a tooth. If it is something major, like a rod knock, I think you would be able to tell as they make a horrendous noise. Good luck with it. Check out 3si.org/forums there is a lot of knowledgable people on that site that know much more than I do.

If it sounds anything close to this : CLICK HERE FOR SOUND BYTE, you'd better start saving your money for an engine rebuild for you have spun a rod bearing. Good luck! It may take a while to load but is definatley worth the wait as this is as clear as it gets.

91,92 motors had a bearing issue also.......lots of spun bearings

LOL that video is great, thats how I got my stealth for next to nothing was because of a spun bearing, and the moron just kept driving it around

I think this has alot to do with the fact that most of the owners fill their engines with the wrong viscosity oil. If you poll every VR4 owner, most use 5-30 or 10-30. That is much too thin IMHO. After a couple thousand miles, the oil will break down and become even thinner- providing less protection. ... but that's a whole new thread topic at this point.
The owners manual clearly states that you SHOULD (not may use) use 20-50 in severe conditions. What dictates severe usage? It doesn't really matter to me... When it comes to providing the most protection for your engine, i'll always use the thickest oil suggested by the manufacturer. I'm sure racing an EVO constitutes as severe duty .

I just wanted to clarify that that particular video is NOT my property nor is it a video of my car. My 92 VR4 is still in good health (knock on wood).
