How difficult would it be to swap the 1G 4G63 engine into the 2g Eclipse Rs? Would it bolt up to the 420A's transmission or would you need the 1g transmission? What else needs to be done? I searched a little but i dodnt find much.

i beleve you would need the other tranny becuse a 4g63 sits assed backwards from a 420a. so the motor mounts would have to be moved. and you would need a new ecu as well there is alot of work to swap. it would be easy if you could get a whole eclipse that has ben smacked in the rear but everthing up front is fine. it would make it alot easier.

The only reason Im asking is cause I wanted to get a 2g eclipse but the GST/GSX are very expensive here so I was going ot get an rs and swap the engine in but I might get a 1g instead or Ill deal with it and pay more for the Gst/Gsx. I have always wanted a Gsx so maybe Ill just go that route and spend more money on an upgraded turbo.

the best way is get a totaled 1g that the rear section is gone than swap everything. you might have trouble going from obd2 to obd1 some states will fail the emision/inspection if it has been changed from obd2.

any swap to an older motor is illegal for emissions. Go buy a turbo eclipse and save your money and time.

No not really. Hell I've seen Hondas with the 4g63 swap and I've seen Mini Coopers with the 2.2VTEC swap and still pass emissions as if it were stock.

the only thing that woudl be illegal is the visual inspection for having a different engine but the dmv can issue an engine swap as legal right? Or if its converted couldnt I do the smog myself and jsut write it down as visual passed?

yes its still easy to pass emissions because they cant easily diagnose that your motor is swapped, however, it is a fact that it is illegal to swap an older motor. I have a 6bolt myself and will never pass emissions visual because i have dangling harnesses.

people swap on the 6 bolt for the 7 bolt is that still an illegal swap?

as long as your vin number is on the car and not any other cars any swap should be "legal". the emmisions is where us 2g people get screwed because the downgrade to the obd1 from obd2 throws all the emmisions off. if the OEM ecu works with he motor you should be fine.

once again, in almost every state it is technically illegal to put an older motor into a car. some smog guys wont catch it, others will. If they do you will NOT pass visual whether you pass emissions or not. I have a 6bolt in a 97 gsx, using OBDII still, I have dangling wire harnesses that are no longer used, and will not pass, i have to get smogged illegally.

Yes the only reason that any inspector would see that it's a swap is by seeing dangling harnessess or if you mention it. I've never met an mechanic or tech that new I had a swapped engine. No one can really tell.

So If I swapped it and got rid of the dangling harness it would most likely pass the visual???

It all depends on how strict the inspector you go to is.

Either way it would be more ideal to just suck it up and purchase a Gst/Gsx am I correct?

Yep it'd be easier and cheaper to just suck it up and buy GST/GSX

If you go to www.slowboyracing.com they have 420A turbo kits. At least last time I checked.
