got a chance to get a nice 91 tsi talon AWD for $1,000, broke the timing belt and bent valves, car has some extras & ran great up untill then, sound like a fair deal,? i can fix anything im not worrried about bent valves & might as well do rings, bearings & oil pump while its half apart

check for oil around the t-case. thats not a problem you want to deal with. And 1k isnt too bad of a deal if your gonna do the work yourself, cuz then it shouldnt cost you more than $500 to get it running again. Then just check for rust everywhere.

i know where i can get a transfer case for $100 if that one does have a problem, does the input shaft seal tend to leak on them or what?

well idk if the 1g's were the same, but i know on the 2gs that they tend to leak at the seals

thats not too big of a deal for me, even as much of a pain as the AWD is to work on(ive put a clutch in 3 of them)
i hear the 1g engines are pretty tough, havent been through one much, ive gone through the neon 2.0 DOHC a million times, i race dirt circle track with a peon & have blown up countless engines , always throws #1 rod... i just like those cars & love to play with turbo stuff & AWD is a big bonus for me, especially playin in the snow
i drive a SOHC neon now for a beater & i hate that little pile of crap sorry excuse for a car but it wont die
its going to be another race car if i get ahold of that talon to drive

well youve definetly picked the right year talon becuase from 1990-1992 they made the best engines in those. I think the weakest link can end up being the trannies. Those are also known to go (but mostly just from excessive beating). But the reason for it being the best is it comes with the 6bolt 4g63 motor which 1993+ it came with a 7bolt (suseptable to crankwalk). Your motor is actually one that people try and swap into the newer eclipses and talons for that reason.

i think im gonna pick it up saturday, i looked over the head, its only got 2 bent intake valves, theyre not bent very bad, just barely enough they leak a little so piston must not have hit them too hard, we'll see what happens when i get it put together i guess.
im extremely rough on cars, i always find the weak links in them pretty quick, AWD im sure to trash a transmission the way i drive, but thats all part of the fun i think just for fun ill runa hose out of the grille from the BOV and tape a balloon to it, thats always entertaining

how much boost can the stock turbo safely make without cooking it, i know my old 89 lazer turboII(maybe it was turboI???) motor ran great on 20psi but it trashed the little piss ant turbo, it was the throttle body injected deal, not much of a power house but fun to beat on

i wouldnt run more that 16psi on the 14b turbo

250 for the head. the only thing is that it will need to be cleaned. it has around 200 miles on it since it was rebuilt. and im from berea ohio. 44017

im from massillon ohio, your not all that far away, i wouldnt expect a head to be 100% clean, i tear evrything down and do it myself even if it is clean, actually this car is a 92, but same 1g motor, and it looks to have a 16b turbo..
bare head or with cams & valvetrain? i wanna go through the bottom end of this thing real quick before i put it back together but i just unloaded $800 in my neon motor in parts & bought the talon , i better quit while i have money left
i cant say yes on the head just yet, but i will definately keep you in mind
i'm in the middle of too many projects at once, i'm gonna get my race car back together first then get back to the talon

i pulled it off my running car and i didnt touch one thing. its a complete head with gears, dont know the year on the head so i dont know which cams car in it but i have stock 93 cams as well so i dont know which ones you want.

i found paperwork in the car today, it has a 1995 JDM motor installed at 80,000 miles on the odometer, it now shows 130,000 miles this look like a 2g motor? the timing belt ground like 6 teeth off then broke, the water pump locked up
isnt the JDM motor like 240HP? heres a pic with the head on still, i havent worked on these enough to remember the difference in 1g or 2g motors

why would saomebody drop a 7-bolt into a car that already had a 6-bolt. what a tard.

got me, thats just what the paper says, it looks like a 1g engine to me, the cam sensor is adjustable, i know the 2g isnt, maybe they put it wrong on teh paper and put a 93 motor in, i just noticed my one post i corrected myself & said it was a 92, i MEANT to type 93 and didnt catch it till now, im honestly kindof a noob to turbo stuff, ive built countless n/a motors and v8's but never messed much with turbo, any tips on what to watch for when i put this back together would be appreciated, im gonna get a boost controller, then i gotta figure out how to work the GReddy turbo timer, looks easy...

check for shaft play in the turbo and putting a turbo timer is a simple thing to use and i have one on my car and i didnt have any problems with it.

so your saying its a 93 then? because if it is, then yes it has a 7-bolt in it.
racerx55

its a 1g motor, the paper says 95, i thought 95 was a 2g engine, this one has the balance shaft, adjustable cam sensor, looks identical to the pics ive seen of 1g heads, so its gotta be, and honestly i feel like a dipshit when ppl say 6 bolt or 7 bolt what bolt count are you referring to?

but yes the car is a 93

Yup, that's a 1g motor alright. Here's one way to tell. The other way is to count the bolts on the flywheel.
People referrence the 6 or 7 bolt when talking about crankwalk. The 6 bolt block is less prone to crankwalk.

thats what i thought but i wasnt sure, this oil pump when i turn it with a drill rattles LOUD, probly not a good sign
i think im just gonna quit wasting my time & get another motor to put in this car
TheEngineer

if he counts the bolts on the flywheel hes gonna get 7 because they made the 7-bolt from 1993-1999. So even if they put the 95 engine in there, its still the same as the one that came stock in the 1993.
