A/C Noise while on lowest setting

Hi,
When I set the temperature dial to the lowest setting with the AC on, how come I hear the fan turns on every 5-7 seconds? Is that normal?
Well when I try to increase the temp. by 1 degree, it goes away and everything is normal.
Why is that?

it is possible that you are hearing the condenser fan cycling on and off , as the a/c system may be "trying" to optimize the system head pressure.

so you think it is normal?

mine does it as well and there are no problems with my a/c system.
so i would say it is normal. if it is extreemly loud , there may be a problem with the condenser fan motor.

FYI when the AC is on max setting the engine cooling fan runs at full speed and cycles repeatedly and sounds like its going to take off. The compressor runs steady until the cooling temp is reached but the engine fan cycles.
If you click it off the max AC notch, the amount that the engine fan runs is reduced, the cycle when its on is shorter and the length before it turns on again is longer.
However if your AC compressor is cycling rapidly there is a problem with it. Note rapidly is the important part here.
So im sure yours is normal. And as a side note I listened to a Jaguar run the ac the exact same way.

is it in the Re-circulating mode ?

yes it is in reciruculating mode. But whats the point of turning the a/c on while having air outside to be in?

recirculating mode should be used if the cars been sitting in bright hot sun light in this mode it cools down the car interior quicker. Then you should switch back to outside mode. If you don't and its raining the car windows will mist up as well

ps outside mode quieter as well

The recirculating mode is separate than max AC at least it is if you have the manual AC in the LS.
Max ac = temp knob all the way to the left, the light in the middle of that knob will turn on and the engine fan will cycle quicly and stay on a long time.
Not Max ac = 1 click to the right on the temp knob, I think the recirculate light goes out, the fan settles down but still cycles occasionally
Recirculate mode without max AC = stay at 1 click to right off max AC then poke the middle of the temp knob and the recicurlate light will come on. The engine fan cycles similar to Not Max ac.
In the models with the automatic temp knob I dont know how it works vs the engine fan speed.
It seems Max ac cycles the engine fan to cool the AC condensor more when the vehicle isnt in motion or moving slowly.

if its the same as my warroir trim push the centre of the dial in and hold for ten seconds repeat to turn on and off.
All 3 circular dial have a push in button to adjust things
Hope this helps?

ok after a few observations on my ac, it seems that everytime the fan kicks on, it is loud as hell. Does all your outties A/C fan sound that loud when max ac?

If it sounds like an airplane then thats about right

ya it sounds like a turbine fan from a jet engine..lol
so bold, your ac is loud also?

Its not the AC its the engine cooling fan. It runs to cool the condensor faster when the car is idle or in slow traffic. It is a good thing, many of my older cars would blow warm air in heavy traffic until the engine got hot enough to turn on the fan.
As far as the fan being loud, it is quite loud, for what its worth I was next to a Jag that was just as loud the ac ran the same way.
Don't worry about it it.
