My cat-back exhaust is on its way so i thought i would prep the car so its ready to go. So much for that idea, here is what i ran into. Question is are those studs part of that flange on the cat? I cant think of any way to get them off without cuting. There is really no thread on the nuts...they are covered in a rust. I can get a wrench around it but it doesnt do anything. The expander for the 2.5-3.0 inch has to go on here. Any help? (sorry the pics are so big)

Damn i dont think ive ever seen one that bad. This might sound funny but take a blow torch to the bolts. I had a similar problem with my car when i was having a test pipe made and that is how they finally manged to get the bolts out.

A lot of heat and a lot of WD-40. And, if you are any good in chemistry, brew up some phosphoric acid. That dissolves rust well.

Yippeeeee, i cant wait.
1) I don't have a torch
2) Ill get right on brewing some phosphoric...
I had my dad look at it and he wanted to cut them

. I'm not buying a new cat either.

Just make sure you have a decent concentration of it

I actually was being sarcastic. I dont have the slightest clue where to begin, but Google here i come. Just pour it over the nut?

Ergh lol.
Yeah pouring it over it will help to a degree. What is going to be most effective is if you can keep it submerged in it. Be careful, it will dissolve iron, but it dissolves rust a LOT faster. You will find that some household cleaners contain the stuff.

We also have huge tanks of liquid nitrogen. Put some of that on and it will become brittle as hell, then just break it off.

Break it off along with God knows what else lol. NOT a good idea

this is what i did and it worked fine... cut the studs and the nut, then drill a hole right where the studs were, and put in a nut and a bolt, it'll actually make it tighter and it's less work... worked GREAT for me when i replaced my mid-pipe on my rs

That is how my testpipe is connected. Just nuts, bolts, and washers.

yea it'll work fine, and it's the easiest solution, and you don't have to use any crazy chemicals haha

Well i received the exhaust today and i opened it....there is a section on the tip that got scuffed/scratched during shipping

and its the part that faces up. Oh well, is there any way to get out scuffs/scratches? They aren't very large but they are there....

Maybe there's some more chemicals you can mix up to help with that too, haha, jk..jk.. Is it a chrome tip?
By the way I'm suprised how many people work around these chemicals, lol. I work for a world wide chemical distribution company myself, but I do the IT work. The name of the company is Brenntag.

I work for weatherford which is hired by the oil fields to do frac jobs. We have some nasty chemicals we use on the jobs as well as a crap load of liquid nitrogen.

you can try some chrome polish, don't know if it will help though, just an idea. I work for Norit Americas Inc. I am so happy to work there..... wait... i lied.
