unless it is for the "bling" factor, one is not really needed.

i know most things about modern cars are very complex. but maybe if you want cold air but can't find a kit, you should go with the classic improvise and build your own. that was the best quality of classic muscle cars and hot rods, if you wanted a new part, you built it.
just my suggestion if you really want cold air. i agree with stealth that you don't need it, but i also plan to install some kind of cold air induction on my GT in the future.

a 3rd gen v6 eclipse cold air could probably be modified to fit

No the Eclipse V6 CAI does NOT fit on a VR4. The reason you arent having luck finding a COLD AIR intake for the VR4 is because there isnt one. Nor is there a TRUE Cold Air for the SL/RT either. The ABS module is in the way. There is a short RAM for the NA and a K&N FIPK for the VR4. If you are turbo, just order the filter and adapter and be done. A intake on turbo car is negligable HP anyways. Hope that helps, feel free to ask anything you want.

do you mean mitsubishi lancer cold air induction? i just made my cold air induction installation for about three months ago and quite curious with what specific cold air you needed...basically mine was '02 Galant..

if you look on 3sx then you find there are some options there.  you can either get an adapter with a filter or you can get the new tube and fit it to a filter.  i dont think its really going to do anything for you though.  just really make some noise.  just my experience.
