I was wanting to get a cold air intake for my 92 elclipse N/T and i wanted some suggestions for the best performance for the price? I was told if i were to get a cold air intake i wouldnt be able to drive in the rain, is this true?

That is a half lie. You can drive in the rain but some CAIs (cold air intake) are positioned in a way that it can get water into it. If water gets in to the intake it can suck it into the engine and cause hydrolock, another words, bye bye engine. Now my CAI is fine and I have been through some nasty rain storms. It is very unlikely that you will get water in it if you drive in the rain unless you go into a deep puddle. The company I got mine from says it won't happen unless the filter is fully submerged in water. So just stay clear of deep puddles and you shouldn't have a problem. If you want to be really safe you can get a CAI that converts into a short ram intake, so when the rainy season comes you can change it out, but it won't give you as a significant gain as cold air. A header will prolly give you anywhere between 3-5hp.

Thanks for the help, what type of power gain would i be looking to get from a short ram intake over a cold air?

Cold air will probably give you around 3-5 more hp than short ram. That is from what I have seen and heard, could be less or more.

So what will help out my 92 gs gain more power, without breaking my bank, what about getting a turbo from ebay, their like 200-400$ would this be an option or should i just not waste time and money? So will a short ram intake be worth the money(they dont have CAI for my car)and would a header be worth it?

your 92 gs what? eclipse?

buying a $200 dollar turbo wont do you any good, because for one, a 200 dollar turbo probably is bad to begin with, and your stock engine isnt made to be boosted...

would it be worth it to spend 1300 on a turbo kit? would it give me a good amount of more power.

you would need to rebuild the motor to handle the boost. if you got a turbo kit you would need to run it less than 15 to 20lbs of boost. if you got the kit you would only need about 12lbs of boost because the stock pistons couldnt handle the amount of pressure. i would be on the safe side and rebuild your motor and that goes for the rest of yall who want to go forced induction or with a nitrous set-up that way you dont blow your motor or worse see your piston go through the block (trust me ive seen it) but if you do get a turbo kit for the $1300 you will see an average of maybe about 90 to 100HP increase with a good turbo system.

your looking to tear the block(bore it and hone) down and rebuilding it, first pistons, rods, crankshaft, camshaft, valves, extensive work to the head for better breathing, better intake manifold, etc your looking at 2000 to 4000 for a really good rebuild.
