im thinking about buying a wrecked or damaged vr4 and putting the motor/trans/ecu/harness/fuelpump/ etc on my 93 base model making it a tt awd being a base model it would be about 400-500 lbs lighter then a vr4... is this a good idea i have a mechanic friend wholl help me out with the R & R...
ne comment appreciated

well the awd, turbos and all the VR-4 stuff will make the base just as heavy lol. I would by the VR-4 and swap the damaged part for the parts off the bass :)

well i figuring on striping the vr4 n putting on my base which just started burning oil =-( wut about tt fwd is it worth it? will a vr4 motor mount up to a fwd tranny.... the reason on keeping the base is that its in near mint condition with factory custom two tone paint-1 of 180 .... so idk i n if im gunna put a new motor in it y not do it rite the 1st time?

If your base model is rare and in good condition, I would swap out the base motor for a VR4. If you want awd, sell your car and get an older VR4, and go from there. If you want to keep your car, I would go for swapping the VR4 motor into your base. I've heard it cost from $2500 to $5000, depending how you do it. An awd swap could cost you up to $10,000 and alot of headaches, not worth it imo.

I did the tt changeover in my 93 and left it fwd, it honestly was not that hard and I absolutly love it. I got one hell of a deal on a tt motor so said why not try, the trans seems to be holding up fine. The best part is I did it all myself and with not much cost. The complete conversion to awd just straight up scares me and I would never do it, like most here said fwd sure but awd just buy one.

I caught the tt motor on ebay for 600 starting price with no reserve. the time it ended was late night so there were no bids and I got it, The guy contacted me asked if I needed anything else so I told him the other things I needed for the swap and he threw them in for an extra 100 so I have 700 into my conversion plus the time I put into it.

The TT swap is possible.. the AWD is borderline impossible

The two people that I know of who did it...wouldn't do it again... and don't recommend anyone else try it.

That again brings me to the most common question... why not just buy a VR4?

because i cant afford a vr4 ppl want too much for a decent one so i could get the power of the vr4 fer about 2-3k in tt swap ... u cant find a nice tt fer no 2-3k so why not? besides the awd system has to be xpensive to replace if foresay the transfer case blows out... theres a couple grand... besides fwd is where it is at :) xpecially when u spank a rwd

surely tho i should be able to, with suspension upgrades, be able to get it to hook up off the line... its not like its 600 hp only bout 350 hp tops on fwd shouldnt be that bad to hook up even with stock suspension its only like 130 hp more then wut im pushin n/a rite now

you will improve your time at the track, but not by too much. if you want a really fast track car, a vr4 swap in a fwd probably won't help you achieve your goals. it will also put alot of stress on your transmission. at best it would be a bad ass daily driver. you need to decide what you want, a track monster or a quick daily driver. if you want a track monster, get a 1st or 2nd gen gsx and make it run 11's for under $10,000. or put $10,000 into your fwd vr4 3000GT and run 13's-14's.

people who want the answer to these questions should just look threw past threads. you'll find about 100 of them. by the time you put all this money into the vr4 engine, an lsd, and the suspension work you want done, you can already buy a nice vr4. and yes you can find nice one for good deals. most people i've spoken with about them doing their fwd vr4 swaps tell me that it was a big mistake and they wish they hadn't gone threw with it.

Honestly I am quite happy with my vr4 fwd, yes you do get alot of wheel spin but there is an old fashioned way to fix that to a degree for the track, Get smaller rims and high sidewall tires, let some of the air out of the tires so they flex and you have decent traction for the track, Yeah it does not look as cool but hey it is for the track so who cares.
