Sup guys i have a 2001 MT Spyder and for some resons eats allot of gas what can i do to stop this problem

Really i dont think theres much you can do. All the products like "the tornado" and other suff dont work.
I usually mut my car in neutral when going down hill. And instead of gassing it off the line launch slowly.

try getting cold air exhaust get wires and get a tune up. if you dont want to go cold air just get a k&n filter. keep the oil changed Most oil can go from 5-10 thousand miles but recomened is 3000. Do you have woofers in the car if so take them out "may not make a whole lot of differance" put some fuel injectior cleaner in the car. make sure your tires are at the proper psi and are balanced and so on.

check ur intake, u mite have 2 clean it out cuz my friend john has a truck n it took a lot of gas n wen he checked his intake he found rocks in it...idk how lol....but after he cleaned it out it was fine. Also check ur oil, if it looks like it needs 2 be changed change it cuz u really dont want your car to work harder wit more friction...takes more gas n can tear up the engine!

anyway...do you have a debadged GT or an RS/GS (4 cylinder)..?

my 6g72 gets 24ish around town, and up around 28 all highway driving..its an automatic, with a trunk full of speakers. i have catback exhaust, CAI, solid motor mounts, and 180 degree thermostat..
i agree with much of what has been said here,...the tornado is a joke...keep the car properly tuned...keep the oil changed, i only run synthetic...

it might be a bad idea to chang to synthetic if the car never ran it it can cause oil leakes and chaging what kida oil the car takes can help or hurt the motor depending on how it was treated in the past most machanics say if it has over 60,000 on it and never ran synthetic dont use it it may cause problems.

what kind of problems??

if you have an oil leak, synthetic is thinner, so it may leak more...it never 'causes" a leak..

yes be more specific. drive soft, calculate your mpg and report back. saying it eats gas could be what others consider normal for that car or maybe you just have a heavy foot.

Diminished ring sealing allows more than the usual amount of combustion gas to contaminate the oil. This results in more rapid oil oxidation, which causes the oil to thicken and age prematurely and may ultimately explain why your engine takes longer to turn over on cold mornings.

Before you ponder any expensive or unnecessary repairs, consider that the solution may be as simple as switching to an oil made for engines with over 75,000 miles. These oils are designed to provide specialized protection for your vehicle's engine by containing anti-wear additives, seal conditioners, extra cleaning agents and friction modifiers. These elements are designed to work together to condition engine seals, prevent leaks, minimize oil consumption, provide easier cold starts, improve power output and resist thermal breakdown — all of which will help maximize the life and sustain the performance of an older engine. These problems can lead to spark plug failure, excessive deposits and a loss of power." its not that it may hurt the motor right away but it can lead to it or cause it because a pure synthetic racing or hipo oil is alot thinner and can accelerate the rate at which these can happen.

When I first got my car it had 85k on it and the guy who had it was putting ursa crap in it. The first oil change I did I threw in some mobil one. Now the car is at 120, havent had an oil leak yet and I beat the piss out of my car every day. Bottom line every motor is different, If you have an lt1 with 200k I'd say get the high miliage oil b/c its had a tuff life, and its a domestic motor. Where if it were a honda civic I'd say put some cooking oil in it and call it a day.

P.S>I am not knocking domestics, I drive a chrystler.

you havent had a visable oil leak right. it wont happen to all motors but most it will that is why it is a recomendation not required.

do you believe everything you read? especially when the source is a company trying to sell you a product? its called marketing, and although the theory may be somewhat correct i call crock on that based on personal experience as i have to switched to synthetic on an 80k mile motor with no issues whatsoever. no one buys valvoline synthetic they buy either mobil one or castrol syntec, so im sure they would love to steal some of those customers with their special "high mileage" oil. sources should be non biased case studies not what an oil company puts on their website.

not just the retailer that sold the product said it many upon many mcahnics have told me the same thing along with all the macines that have built my motors in the past which they know what could happen like i said it dose not happen to all motors but there is still a chance that it could not "cause the problem but aid it in getting worse "some things". i would take the word of somone that builds motors for a living and dont give a sh** what kinda oil you use but can tell you what he has seen and gives sugestions.

I agree with both of you... There reasoning behind it is correct... But they are stretching the truth about it, and making it sound more important than what it is... If it made that big of a difference, they would of had it a long time ago.

PPPffftttt, mechanics dont know crap, I have been doing this for... 30 some odd years... or so (not to bad for an 18 yearold eh). Really though some mechanics arent that smart. For example I had a kerback mitsu mechanic "specialest" said that I should drop a 4g63 block in to my car. Head wont fit, trans wont fit, IT WONT FIT. He said "ya it will". Then again I know a guy who works on my buddys lightning and he KNOWS his crap. So its iffy, depending on who you talk to. As far as I am concerend this topic is officially dead as.... of.... NOW.

you are tiring to tell me a guy that has been building motors for 35 years don’t know **** on what is good and what can be bad. LMAO oh **** that some funny stuff that is like saying AutoZone is more knowledgeable that the engineers that built the car LOL. hey you may think it is just me but i would much rather take advice from someone that rips the motor apart and has seen how different problems effect the internals of the motor rather than just some mechanics that takes a compression test than tells ya you may need a new motor. don’t get me wrong there are several mechanics out there that also deal with internals but not all day. what it comes down to is sure it COULD happen but it might not but why take a chance if it may be that one motor that has a head gasket that has not leaked with conventional oil but than dose when u put synthetic in. there are a lot of things that could happen but they don’t always happen it is just a risk that is taken when you go from conventional oil to a hypo racing or super syn oil.
