they are both the 6g72 but the eclipse is an NA SOHC versian while the VR-4 is a twin turbo DOHC versian. VR-4=**** ton more power and potential pluss its awd

sweet thats what i thought, but my friend was really trying to get me into the 3.0L eclipse. now i knew of the SOHC vs DOHC which is why i was looking at the vr-4. But is there ant other differences in anything else like engine weight or something of that (more specific) nature?

the "kick ass" factor in the VR-4 is way higher

well the 6g72 VR-4 is a twin turbo and its engine weighs a little more but it makes what 320hp and they're AWD. They make more than enough power to make up for the weight difference. If you have the money stick with the VR-4. The 3.0L GT's are worthless to tune, the GTS model is even worse because the pistons are high compression and are garbage. The only way to make some power out of the 3.0L 6g72 is to turbo it, and if you dont build the engine with forged internals from the bottom up its only going to be able to hold 6-8psi and that my friend is worthless for the money.

excellent....now maybe you could help answer another question for me. i dont want to put it into a 3k gt like its supposed to because its a damn heavy car (it is my first choice for looks tho). so im thinkin a mirage because it something like 500+ lbs lighter (according to the site i looked at). is that practical?

You need to politely tell your friend that his little 3.0L eclipse isnt.. .and will never be fast :)

i talked to a guy named andrew down here in MO at a meet this weekend. he ran 386whp on his 3rd gen eclipse gts(RIPP supercharger on 19 psi) he had the charts to prove it as well

so they arent that bad.

somewhere in the 12's and he didnt spend all too much i believe. not to mention it is in emaculate condition i would take it before a dsm.

there are many faster than his too. now a days the 11s are getting to be rather easy for both the v6 and I4 to make it to

yeah im not saying that the 3g cant be made fast....any car with enough money into it can be fast. If you add up the amout of money it takes someone to put their 3g in the 11's and put that amount into a 1g or 2g turbo its no comparison. If i had to choose on a 3g i would get the GS, it has the most potential out of all of them. It can hold 15psi all day.

oh and another thing the VR-4's are really sweet but they're fat and if something breaks its hard to get parts for them these days and the aftermarket mods are wayyyyyyy to expensive!

I retract my previous statement. Ok... maybe they can be... not easily though

Even that is not true man, the 3G GS can make 300WHP without even toughing the internals and you can make a turbo kit for it using alot of 1G and 2G parts
