My son drives a 1990 Montero with a V6, 3.0 liter engine. The Montero has over 200,000 miles. The lower end of the engine sounds like a rod bearing is out. I don't want to rebuild this motor. Will any 6g72 motor, including those made for chrysler work as a replacement.

Howabout drop the oil pan and replace the rod bearings.
Parts about $ 65.00 Right ? Doable job if its just the rod bearings. They come right out from the bottom right ?
Could buy you another 25kmi.
Just a thought.
Although I would troubleshoot the situation first, or maybe take it in for a diagnostic.
