Hey guys, wassup?

I have a 93 Stealth ES 3.0 and I'm swapping the engine for a 95 twin turbo straight from Japan. So far I got for parts for the swap... I got the LSD the bigger fuel pump the guages(air/fuel and boost) The ECU, the engine mounts, the exhaust, BOV and some more that I can't remember...so anyway, I just wanna know if I need anything else to make it work...if anything? For now I just want to make it work...I'll concentrate on the tuning later....oh and a Stage two clutch. So anyway...would appriciate your advice.

Well, which transmission are you using?  The 94 and up vr4's used a getrag six speed, so the na tranny might not bolt up all the way.  Also, you might want to switch axles and to handle the extra power.  If i were you and had like forever enough money, i'd do the mid-engine swap.  In Japan, the 3000gt vr4 came in a mid-engine model called the "MR".  It used the twin turbo engine and was still all wheel drive.  If you got the half cut of the MR model, you *could* make the mid-engine 3000gt except in rear wheel drive only....that would be cool

Thanks for yor reply.

But all I have is a brand new 5spd front wheel drive tranny and an engine that's siting in the shop t'ill I get all the parts. so what your saying is that the transmission might not fit all the way and that if I want it to fit I might have to purchase a vr4 tranny but my car is front wheel drive and if I get a vr4 tranny I'll have to get all the parts to make it 4wd that would cost me a freakin arm ,leg and half the other one. I had checked with others and was told that it would fit. Anyway I'll try it and see what happens.

Thanks again.

let me know if you got more info.

Well, You may not need to get the complete vr4 drivetrain, the shop could weld the center differential and keep it fwd.  Then you wouldn't need the rear drivetrain parts.  However, that should only be an issue if the NA tranny doesn't bolt up.  Not many people have tried to swap in a VR4 engine, they usually just turbocharge the original.  If you want the vr4 axles, you may need to see if the getrag units would fit, but they probably won't since they're different manufacturers.

Honostly, the mid-engine swap wouldn't be a bad idea at this point.  If you can afford to do a trial and error on the swap, then you would be able to afford the mid-engine swap.  Going mid-engine isn't as hard as it seems and you should really check with your shop to see if they're up to it.  It'll basically be a fwd setup but everythings in the mid-rear of the car so that it is rwd.  There are a few people here in the states that have gone MR and they say it's much better than the awd sytem.

That sounds like an awsome idea. I'm gonna check out the specs and talk with the guys at the shop. Oh and I was just thinking, there's no reason why the tranny shouldn't fit on this engine cause its the same as the non-turbo one...except for the turbos. Anyway, thanks again for writting and I'll keep ya'll posted on my progress.

The engine codes are the same, 6g72 for the NT and 6g72 for the Turbo, but Mitsubishi did a lot of weird things back then.  Like using the Getrag tranny instead of their own superstrong W5M33 tranny.  Now, When you take everything apart you will know for sure, but just be aware that you may need to fabricate an adapter plate for the tranny if the block doesn't fit up.  Definitely not a hard job, but it's worth mentioning.

I'm in Ottawa area...to be more precise in Petawawa. It's a Military base. But some s**te has come up and I might have to put the project on hold. Here's the scoop...the engine is stored in one of my buddies garage ti'll tomorow...so I thought. Anyway, to make a long story short, the guy that I bought the engine thru owes the guy with the garage some money so he doesn't want to give me MY engine back...but what he doesn't seem to understand is that it's my engine and I F#$%^#@ paid for it and I got the receit to prove it to...so tonight I'm going down there with a bunch of my buddies from base and we are getting my engine. Because I want to have this instaled and running perfect by Monday.

keep ya'll posted

Hey bro, I got your back.....in Ohio.....Yeah well....i dunno.

Anyway, yeah that dude's just acting stupid.  If the guy who owes money doesn't pay the garage dude....he's got no right to take it out on you.  But you gotta worry about MP, right?  2 of my buddies just got outta the Marines, one was stationed somewhere in Cali, the other in like Tennesee or somethin.  My Buddy in Tennesee says the MP's were jerk offs.  They'd f*** with him when him and his buddies got in trouble....not good times.  I dunno dude, hope everything works out for ya.  You gotta show your ride when it's done.

Well for now I'm only working on performance and making sure that it gets tweeked the best it can. After that I'll start working on cosmetics. The car's a 93 and driving it in Northern Canada doesn't help...I'm starting to see some rust along side the driver side plastic guard and one tinny spot under the hatch door. It's forest green so the it's realy hard to see the rust that's why I'm gonna get a paint job in the year to come or next....like I said, my money is going in the engine and performance area first and as soon as I'm satisfied....Paint job. I'll probably make some smoke shows to test...stuff  ;OP  I'll take some pics of that. Anyway....

Check out the JDM '99 model spoiler.  It's hard to describe what it looks like, but if i had to say, it kinda looks like the new Evo spoiler....just cooler.  Looks real sweet.  What color are you gonna get your car painted?

Oh yeah....almost like the Altered Atmosphere 3000GT.  Very sweet looking car, with two 20g turbos.  However, i'm not sure how it would look with the pop-up headlights.  The AA car has the newest style lights with the black housing, and it really looks aggressive, but i dunno.  I still think the colors cool.

...Oh yeah I love those lights. Any idea where I could find some for my car? And about that spoiler... should I paint it the same colour as the rest of the car or make it black?  OH and I got some good news...If everything goes well....it's going down on Thursday of this week ,22nd...I f**kin hope so...cause I'm tiered of this s**te. Anyway...we'll se how it goes.

Nicewheels, i think the black spoiler would look better than body color.  kinda like the mustangs(Mach1 i think).  Those headlights are also on the later year Stealth's also.

How did it turn out, all good I hope.

One thing though, the MR 3kgt was NOT mid engined. I don't know what the MR denotes. It was front engine awd like the rest of them. I had no active aero, climate control, active exhaust, no leather, lighter than stock wheels, and I think an upgraded ralliart ECU. It was basically just a factory lightened version. Other than that, it is the same as any other VR4.

I also think that the trannies will bolt on all year SOHC, DOHC, and TT engines. The later model years did have different output shaft in the transfer case and different spline counts on the axles, but the tranny should bolt up to the block.
