i have a 90 tsi awd with a 16g, sbr fm intercooler, 550 cc injectors, 3 inch exhaust all the way back, and dsm link. i have 800$ (at the moment) and i was wondering what a good next supporting mod would be. i was thinking 264 cams or a light weight flywheel.

You clutch is going to be toast... how about that for your next investment?
Also these you might want to put on your list if you dont already have them: Exhaust, intake, BOV.

i forgot to mention the intake but i said it had the exhaust. a clutch is not too important becuase its a brand new stock clutch, and i dont beat the crap out of my car.

cams at this point. Since you have a brand new clutch, and you dont beat on it, it should hold for a good 5-7 months(heavy use). For the money, it's your best best for power.
Or some good drag radials, so you wont spin all fours.

You would be suprised how quickly it will chew through that clutch. The flywheel would cost you the same to install it as the price of it.

I think alky/meth injection would be a good investment. They are $250+ or less if you build it yourself. Perhaps a bigger TB elbow to match the IC piping.
It's most likely just me, but I think cams are a bit much with having a 16G that flows 500-550CFM range (depending on which one he has). The 1G motor breathes just fine for that turbo as it is IMO, but you will still most likely have knock issues and that's where the alky/meth injection comes into play. Check out some DSMtimes and see what those guys with the 16Gs are running and their times, I'm pretty certain that most of them didn't have cams and were in the mid to low 12's. I'll have to check again, just to make sure though
If not those, then I say a heavier clutch too. A lightweight flywheel and stock clutch combo will most likely burn out the clutch fairly fast. Do that right the first time IMO. I'm going to assume that you have a pump and regulator too, since it's not listed up there and since you have 550cc injectors already. If not, get them before anything else.

you have DSM Link but how did they tune your car? you didn't list a wideband or EGT Gauge on your car that's why i asked. just makin sure you didn't just throw this stuff on your car and expect it to be fast w/o tuning lol. you can get a really nice valve job for about 200-250 that will help out quite a bit especially if you throw cams in there after you do ur valve job!!

The cams (264) which is a mild cam would just help the turbo spool harder than it does now. i dont think i would have a problem with knocking. i could also just pocket the money and save for a br stage 3 shortblock and head.

hmm how about you invest in a radar detector coury? lol

how about paying the a off first. thats what i did. but id buy a wideband and throw out the narrow thats in the car.

you won't need an upgraded block for some time. not until about 450-500whp. if anything go for the head but those heads dont come with cams so you'd have to buy them anyways.... catch 22 lol

hey ppl i have an 97 eagle talon tsi awd and id like to know wat motor could i put in it instead of the stock one i was looking at the 3000gt if it whould fit and if not wat could thanks.
RCJr9186
3/11/2007 10:19:38 PM
wont' fit. why do you want to do a motor swap? with a little over 1k in mods (injectors, fuel pump, 16g turbo, fmic, piping) you can be 300whp... another 2k or so and you can get up to touching 400whp

I didnt see a fuel pump in there. But ill just assume you have it.
I would say cams is a good next mod. And get some ARP head studs while your working with the head
RCJr9186

Big EVO 16g turbo
any FMIC
any IC Piping
walbro 255 fuel pump
HSK SSQ bov Greddy Type S bov or Greddy type RS bov, these are the best recirulating bov's on the market you will have to get the recirulation kit for it.
any type of injectors 550's will suit your needs. 650's will do you fine with enough juice for future mods
AEM Eugo Wideband gauge
Apexi SAFCII or DSM Link (something to tune the car with)
and you should be good to go up to 300-350whp.

ok thanks alot i realy apreciate that but like i sait the dome gasket is leeking and the head gaskey is going to so wat whould you do take it out and fix it or just get the same exact motor with less kms
TheEngineer
3/12/2007 5:47:35 PM
a head gasket is a relativly cheap fix, and id say worth just fixing it. At least it will be alot cheaper that way

if you have the money to buy upgraded pistos, rings and rods than it will allow you to put whatever you want down the road and it also raises the cost of the car.
talon_tsi_4wd
3/12/2007 9:06:14 PM
yea true but could you specify a little like wat kinda piston and rings and rods and then whould it be ok to put the modz that you listed me like the 16g turbo......and how much hp whould you think ill be running... like in my situation wat whould you do like, do the motor job put in the upgraded pistons.... then put the listed modz that you told me ? thanks alot

if you have the money to do it, rebuilding the bottom end will cost you from 900-1200 depending on the prices you get:
JE/Weisco/Scat/Manley Pistons - (8.5:1 or lower) between 390 and 450
Eagle/Scat/Crower/Manley Rods - between 290 and 400 (eagle are cheap and reliable)
Rings come with pistons
ACL/Clevite/Topline Rod and Main bearings - for both about 70-90 bucks.
While the motor is out, upgrading the motor mounts is a good idea also, a good set of urethane motor mounts will run you about 80 bucks. (this will make it a smoother ride with less wheel hop = better acceleration)
everything i just mentioned you can get at www . cimotorsports . net they are a great company w/ good prices and great customer service, that's where i buy all my parts from. oh also everything i just mentioned came from there and totaled about 860, antyhing over 500 bucks is free shipping i'm pretty sure and they also run 5% sales all the time.
