well i was driving today slowy, when i see something in the middle of the road looks like a big rock,i tried to swerve but i hit it and my car is slammed.so when i stop to check the car my oil is leaking and when i mean leaking its all coming out,so i took it home and all my oil leaked out within half an hour.imma lift it up tomorrow im pretty sure its the oil pan, could i be wrong?if it is the oil pan this is what i was thinking about doing, removing the pan myself, and taking it to a shop and have them reweld it shut.and just replacing the oil pan gasket.what dou you guys think?

If you have a 7 bolt in your car still, it shouldnt be that hard to find a used one.. Just get a new gasket and pick up a used oil pan for $10-$20...

hahaha, this sort of thing happened to me in a beat up junker I had once(actually I still have it, I just havent fixed it yet). Instead of hitting a rock I hit a damn sewer cap or manhole some may call it, the ground around it was sunk in and I was driving a buddy home at like 12:30am and all I remember was going about 20mph and BAM!!!!!!!!! it felt like the whole damn car came to 75% of a stop. I figured it hit the frame and honestly I could give two sh*ts about this car, but when I turned the corner I noticed this really dark trail behind my car and when I turned again under a street light I could see it clearly, it was oil and luckily my buddies house was like a block away from where I hit the sewer cap. Thankfully he let me park the car at his house. The funny thing is, we got flash lights and further inspected the car once we got to his house and saw that not only did the oil bolt rip out, but it punched a hole in the transmission pan as well, and also broke a support arm for what looked like the transmission. I attempted to pursue a claim to have the car fixed but it was like chasing your own A$$, you always seemed to be sent to someone else, so eventually I just said F@#! IT!
But, definately not smart to keep driving! I'm pretty sure the car is fine, just needs replaced parts, and as for you Gstfat check the junkyard, it's your best deal.

what oil pans fit my car? i have a 96 gs-t 7 bolt motor,i would think that the 420a doesnt fit right?would the gsx oil pan fit?
nick_200321
10/22/2007 8:33:20 PM
yea, the gsx oil pan should fit, and you are correct the 420a has a different oil pan.. as long as you get one from a gst or gsx it should fit, the only difference is one is AWD one is FWD

ok so what sealant should i use?ive heard of mitsu RTV,is that a good one or is there a better one?should i buy a gasket?i saw a forum on dsmtalk that says the cars from factory dont come with gaskets and i should only use a sealant.im gonna buy new bolts.

no, there is a seal for the oil pan that goes around the lip, i dont think sealent will hold well
Sebba

Gstfat
10/23/2007 3:39:09 PM

i think all you NEED is between the block and the gasket... but i guess it wouldnt hurt to put it between the gasket and the pan
