ok, for the last week i've been torn back and forth and back and forth what do to. . . i have my eclipse GS w/ body kit looks nice.. about to sell it and will get anywhere from 7-9k out of it.   also about to get 2100 for my taxes.... total thats apx 9-11k for all.    now i have 2 choices... get a GSX (stock or just a shell) and put the rest of the money towards 2.3l stroker, 7.5:1, stage 3 race head, trani, clutch etc etc etc.... OR i can spend it on my new house that i just bought... w/ that money i'm lookin at a new 8' privacy fence, extend my deck w/ hot tub, hard wood floors and new HD tv. . . i know this is a car forum but honestly what would yall do?   in one hand i have the money now and i have wanted this car for over 8 years now, in the other hand it's a long term investment to put it in the house BUT i'll also be in the house for 4-5 years so i have plenty of time to do whatever i want to it. . . . what would yall do??????

dude my house has been party central for the last 3 months lol i'm gettin sick of it to be honest.  had a "pimp and ho" party last night that was a freakin blast lol    i do know that long term investment is in a house BUT like i said i'll be here for 5-6 years and have all that time to get everything one and in which case everything i do along the way would be newer when i sell it than if i were to do everything right now.   and YES once i get my house on its way and/or done... it will be THE bachelor pad to be at!

well listen, you do all these mods to a car your dumping about $15k down the drain before you know it.  You sell the car its only gonna sell for like 8k or something stupid even after all that work, OR you drive the car alot and then it is just going to keep needing the TLC and maintenace to stay ship shape.

You fix up your house and instantly you just put big bucks in your pocket for about the same cost as the car to mod maybe alittle more.  the money weights out the house will do more for you.  plus you do the house now then youll have all the time in the world to build a car up.

true.... i duno.... my biggest problem is i work for my dad, and i lived w/ him for a year in his new house, well within 3 months of him living in the house he just bought September 05 he spent about 40k on his back yard, 5k on his TV, speakers, surround sound, lighting etc., 10k on his remodeled garage/rec. room.   well livng w/ him watching him do all this crap it makes me want all of this stuff just as fast but i just can't seem to face the fact that  make 1/30 of what he makes lol   i know what my problem is... i want to much, to fast, and i know i can't do it all.    mabey i'll just take 6k and get a GSX... spend the other 4-5k on the house and then go from there . . . . that way i'm getting the best of both worlds.

find a sweet car you can get for like 5 grand (i payed 4,600 for my Eclipse), and put the rest into the house.

Me and my gf just financed a 55" Sony HDTV and its amazing!
Nothing like first person shooters on the big ass screen!

sounds good.   w/ the 4-5k in the house i can get the privacy fence and deck done... that's a good start.  then i just gotta worry about a nice tv/stand, hard wood floors - not looking forward to that price tag, and hot tub.   and STILL have a bad=ass car lol,   gettin late here for me, past my bed time, thanks emonz... what is your real name by the way?  later bro

you want big HDTV get a overhead projector.  I work in the cable business I see TVs all day long day in and day out and these things are the way to go.  The price is so much better and you get so much more.

for example a buddy has one in his living room might as well be a movie theatre it measures I think 100 and something across and like 80 down or something crazy like that all for $1100 and it is DLP with 1080P the only downfall is lighting you have to have a semi dark room but the picture is amazing on them

Or i say if you really want to spend the money on a car and not the house, put it as a down payment on that evo youve always wanted

yea... the only thing about projector is that in my living room i have 2 windows, connected to my living room is my dining room where i have a full sized sliding glass door and even though i obviously have blinds, on a birght day i would never be able to see the projector.

well honestly i've ALWAYS wanted a GSX...... i wouldn't mind having an EVO IX but the car payment even if i put down the 15k i was plannin on would be like 300-400 a month plus insurance.  with a mortgage and only being 20. . . i'd be eating ramen nootles to be able to afford gas and living lol      i would be more satisifed with a 500-600whp GSX than evo.

i guess to each his own i guess. For the lighting thing, it really isnt as bad as you would think even with light. But the person mike was talking about has one window, on porch large door entrance,  and a kitchen entrance with a bump out window that brings in light also, and he just used drapes to cover the window and the door, and it looks really nice and blocks any lighting that would mess up the picture.

I put ZERO down on $22k for my Evo and I am paying $360 a month.  you could get a used EVO these days for under $20k It is a better investment than dumping into a DSM  at least the EVOs are still holding some high prices even 4 years later and high milage.  Not to mention the reliablity and being able to make the 500HP mark without needing the bottom end touched

well if i were to get an evo it would be a IX MR... love the look and have to have the features lol if i'm payin this much for a car, i'm goin all out.    i just duno... i can't find an IX MR for under 28k. . .  if i were to get it, what i'd do is take 5k from my car sell and put it into it's own account, prolly take about 100 out of every check and put it into that account, and either in september (birthday) or december (xmas) i'd throw that money down on it.   sept = apx 7400,  dec = apx 9000 then prolly draw it out for 5-6 yrs, so lookin at about 300-325/month for the evo + insurance + mortgage + electricity/gas + water + cable + food + spending money etc etc... easly about 900 a month in bills.   or i could have a paid off eclipse pushin close to 400 by then.     so i just duno, i like the idea of an evo b/c 1 they are just sick nasty from the factory, built a lot better (but kind of not a factor b/c i'll be building the engine in which ever car i get anyways), 4dr so could have it long term.... geh, this sucks!   had to go and throw the EVO back in the mix didn't you EMONZ, i hate you.     why can't i make like 10k more a year? then i wouldn't even care!

Ok so then tell me what do you know about the IX MR or even the IX in general?  You do understand the bilstein suspension is not for performence?  and how bout the fact they make a non MR 6 spd I belive or vis versa.  You can get a IX SE which is for lack of a better explaination a EVO 9.5 it is basically a base IX with MR options.

The MR is a waiste of $$$ IMO.  think about it.  New MR go from 35-42k and the regular goes from 28-34k just think about it.  the regular model is just as fast for less money look exactly the same and in 2006 even shared more of the MR colors.  The suspension is better for road racing.  and after that you got around $1k-$6K or so you can spent elsewhere rather than NEEDING an MR.  not to mention the MR 6 spd requires you to shift ALOT the gearing is very very short.

How cheap is you morgage to say all that stuff adds to like $900 a month.  listen to this not sure what you make but I make $17.25 and get OT when I want it.  ok My Evo payment is $360 my insurence is $150 my Rent is $600 my cable bill is $10 lol my phone bill is $100 all that on top of not driving the car that I pay $510 a month for lol and I still afford to pay it all early and mod the car as I want to.

so I pay a total of about $1220 a month for all my bill and I dont regret the Evo one minute even when money was tight it was worth every penny.  I personally would never buy a 2G nor a DSM for that matter and if you figure in the money you would dump into a GSX it would still cost you ALOT in the end where teh Evo I garentee you will think is a FAST MONSTER even stock and you can mod slowly with huge gains out of basic stuff.  youll be looking at 11s with bolt on and a tune easy.   the GSX wont do that reliably with out Mucho dollars lol

My opinion though.  I still say do the house the right way then figure out a car

Emonz, after reading what you had to say about EVO's, I went and looked at your photo gallery.
Man, i'm sold.
I think my truck might be on the chopping block.
What kinda mpg that sucker get?

all very valid points and you think the same way i do... my mortgage is 1100/month but i have 1 room mate and possibly a second moving in soon (i get bored w/ just one person here who NEVER gets off his computer lol)  that's why it'd be so cheap.  total i'm lookin at about
rent - 400 (i pay more than my minimum to pay off the principal faster)
cable - 28
electricity - 40
water - 15
insurance - apx 150
phone bill - 41
gas - 80
car payment - 350
= 1104  - throwing an extra 200 for whatever expenses puts me up to 1300/ month for bills/fun.   that still leaves me about 700/ month for saving... i guess i could afford it!  sell the eclipse for apx 8k, taxes 2100, puts me at 10k, put 4k into the house, leaves me w/ 6k.  let that grow intrest and also put about 100-150 per week into that fund by september... 4800+my 6k... throwing 10,800 down on an EVO IX (by then hopefully price will be cheaper)  btw, reason i wanted the mr is pretty dumb to be honest, only reason is the traction options... wet, asphault, gravel.   i think that's the only difference.  so lets say 10800 off of the 28k... lookin at an 18k evo. . .  hmmm lol lookin good payments apx 300-350/month car payment.  i could manage that!  damn it, this sucks!!! lol
