I was just wondering for all us eclipse owners how many miles is too many miles? My 2000 eclipse has 119,000 miles on it and i am in the process of changing the plugs and timing belt for the second time. I guess what im wondering is at how many miles should i start looking for a new engine? and how long do our 3g eclipses last? Thanks

omg... my 2001 eclipse gt has 46,000 miles on it... well my mechanic told me that these cars start having problems after 100,000 miles but getting a new engine shouldnt be nesesary, im not sure but i think a NA car engine lasts longer then a forced incuced car's, plus it really matters how you drive the car.

there is no set number of miles before an engine craps out. it all depends on how you treat the car. i've seen a couple of guys go over 150k(and still going)....i've also seen guys go only 20k before blowing the engine(stock engine).

mitsubishi engines have been known to go over 250k.

ya man... look at supras I know of a few guys well over 200K on a powerfull car and runs ever day no trouble. there is one at 270K Twin turbo with Turbo back exhuast on it and still runs fine. you cant place a # on what is bad or in need of reppair it is all in the proir owners and the care they put into it

Dude does not know what he is talking about. Mileage does not mean much at all. The main thing that leads to the longevity to engine/car life is the owner. Maintinace plays a huge part. imports do tend to last longer regardless. I had a 87 325i that I drove until it had 245,000 I sold to a kid 5 years ago and he is till driving. Just oil. One set of brakes and it ran like a dream. I think the key is that once a week a person should just drive their car with no radio on with the windows dolwn and really listen to their car. Most 1st and 2nd Gen make it well into the 200s (with a little TLC) so I would assume that a 3rd gen should last even longer.

Just my 2 cents

just wondering those of u with a 2g over 100,000, anything breaking that is similiar or common between any of us?(besides motor stuff). THe only thing that comes to my mind on my car are the hatch hydraulics going out and maybe the power windows kinda of getting sketchy.

A good place to find that sort of thing is Msn autos just click used car put in your make and model and read all consumer reports starting from the logest rated to highest. Should be quite a few remarks on just about every car!

Hope that helps!

I'm at about 96,000 on my 97 RS and things seem to be fine... hatch hydros have been out since I bought it at 89,000. The tranny is screwing up, but um.. that's my fault .. hoping to get that fixed today. shhh!

i have 99k miles on my '03 GT. no real problems other than the tranny shifting like crap. but thats a normal problem with the GT and has been happening since I got the car with 10k miles on it.

I dont think gears shifting bad after 10k miles should be considered "normal" lol

i didn't say it was normal. i said it was a normal problem. just about every 3G GT manual has the problem. the synchronizers are shot when it leaves the factory.

Audi S4 is awesome... The 2000 model is cheap as hell over here.
