As soon as I have some extra time Ill write up a full instruction thing on how to do the drive upgrade and MP3 transfers. Doing some other adjustments at the moment once I get them done ill do a combined posting that includes them all.
More then anything i have to pull the drive again to check what I used for formatting on the MP3s moved to the drive since they are not standard format,

I hadnt even thought to look into this at all, Its kinda in a different direction of what I have been trying to do as I am attempting to get a visualizer to play when the system is in audio mode and not being used for more then a few seconds aka a screen saver. Granted for some people Im sure this will be annoying as its kinda a distraction in the corner of your eye while you are driving. But well in the end Im doing this for my own use and I want a screen saver.
Ill take a look at the single information display but are we talking about when a CD is playing, the music server, sirius radio, or all of the above?

Hi everybody,
I''m looking Mitshubishi Navi system for first time and want to ask something (maybe stupid).
What is the operation system of MMCS?
Can I start my program writing for WinCE or standart Windows?
I see in the first page some linux commands, but maybe they are only for unlocking HDD.

OK, thanks. I see MMCS running WinCE 4.2. It''s good.
Can use Windows Explorer on MMCS?
I want to start other program for navigation.
If that works and start connection with GPS will be great.
What''s the parameter of GPS connection (COM port number, speed)?

Okay so i get to step 5 (Start the computer, boot from CD, and pick option 3: "Boot linux with locking/unlocking utilities")
but in step 6 it shows "Wait for root@Xbox-HDM:/1 prompt" and i dont get that. i get A:\. (If i chose option 2 thn i get the root@Xbox-HDM:/1 promt. )
When i enter "unlockhd -p B2BAB3BCB0DFACBEB1BBBEDFB1ADD2CDC9CEAAB2DFB19E8996DFAA8C9A8DDFDF" at the A:\ prompt I get an error that says unable to locate password file or somthing like that.
If i run syspwd command it show me the HD is connected and recognised but locked.
Also i cannot figure out how to run fdisk -I it does not recognise this command.
PLEAES HELP!!!

If you get to an "A:\" prompt, you''re in DOS, not linux. The "root@Xbox-HDM:/1" prompt is linux. In order to unlock the drive and use the "unlockhd" command, you must be in Linux.

I followed the instructions exactly. How would I end up in DOS? I created the boot disk from the ISO in the link and selected option 3. I have no other hard drive connected. Like i said if i choose option 2 i get the root@Xbox-HDM:/1 promt but the unlockhd command does not work with option 2. Im confused.

Okay option 3 says boot to DOS with unlocking options. So the directions are wrong? Which option do i need to choose if I shouldnt be using DOS?

MLD:
I''''m pretty sure its option 3, but read the options and look for the one that reads, "unlock using linux"
thats the one you want, the option below that is "unlock using DOS" you don''''t want that one.
And a quick question for anyone that can help
I unlocked the HDD, replaced a few of the screen files, one of them actually changed, but the main Mitsubishi Logo (the very first one that comes up) is still the same and I replaced that file with a custom one. I''m wondering if its possible to replaced that file or am I wasting my time?

I believe the mits logo that you see at boot is stored in the firmware as a boot image and that changing the image may not do any good although. Something to try is change the image then disconnect the battery on the car for 3 minutes to force the car to completely reload from the drive this might do the trick but cant say for sure, just kinda one of those hey give this a try type things.

I have a question. I have tried unlocking my nr261um hdd on 2 different laptops and on each I keep getting asked for a hdd 0 password. I downloaded the .rar listed here opened it and copied the contents to cdrom. but I never get asked to boot from cdrom or to boot linux.
Anyone got any clue what is happening?

hit enter like 6 times, it will ask you initially on bootup for the HDD password, but if you hit ''enter'' a bunch of times times (enter the wrong password 3 times basically) it will just bypass it and then you ''should'' have the option to boot from CD then. That is how it worked on my dell.
It may be more or less for you, but it should just give up about the HDD password and try to boot the next device, which should be your bootable CDrom.

If you''re feeling brave, you can try hot-swapping the drive into the laptop. Boot laptop with drive unplugged, then when you''re sitting at the boot menu on the CD-ROM, plug in the hard drive, then start to load linux. Be warned that this could be fatal to the laptop and/or drive :)

did that, and it came up saying that there was nothing to boot from. When making the boot disc, do i just open the rar file provided on pg 1 and copy it over to a cdrom?

I think that when you extract it is an .ISO file, which is basically an image or the CD, you need to use a program like alcohol 120% or Nero or something to copy the image to a disk. If you don''t do it this way it will not be bootable.
Someone else correct me if I''m wrong. I can''t remember for sure if its an image.

alright i found where to create a linix .iso file. I am assuming that is what i need to do, nut nonetheless I am still getting the same message that there is nothing to boot from

Make sure in your BIOS your laptop will try to boot from CD if there is no HDD... better yet, set your CDROM drive as the primary boot device.
If that is already setup, then my guess would be its something with how the CDROM is setup. But it sounds like your doing that correctly now.

I am thinking that I am doing something when burning the cdrom that or I am not creating the linux .iso file correctly.

1. I have a 120gb in mine Ill be posting a thread by the end of the week with full directions on how to do it. NOTE THE DIRECTIONS ARE UNIX / LINUX BASED. You need a real computer to do it ;p

nasa, nice and very useful your guide, I hope to see the continuation soon, but I believe that Brian360 also deserves credit because he was who unlocking the HDD and to contributed enormously in this project, only my opinion. . .

Thanks :) As I recall, oly57_mpg and I worked a weekend together to discover the unlock password. Rcostin basically figured out how the update mechanism works thanks to a dealer update CD. Otaku did the work of deciphering the KWI file format and otherwise reverse-engineering the system despite not ever having played with the MMCS first-hand. Correct me if I''m wrong on any of that :)
