i got into a race with a guy driving some honda civic with a fart can...  i look in his interior, it's got all his stuff spray painted, peeling, and a 5" tachometer on the dash... it's huge...  he couldn't figure out why i beat him until he realized i was turbo'd.  but still.... whats up with the 5" tach?  anyone?  please it's hurting my head.

I think because, his motor is RPM sensitive...rev too high and it will go poof, lol.
Seriously...I don't know....maybe because it's cool to immitate "real" race cars, lol.

thats called WANNABE RICE
If you really wanna know something amusing, i have a gutted caged race car and i use the factory tach.
if your looking at the gauges your not paying attention.
I should put a folgers coffee can on my car again as a joke, that was funny ****.

well... if it was pre 97 and it was an automatic, it doesn't have a tach in the gauge cluster.  so he sorta has an opinion but 5"?????? we call that overkill with a hint of Rice! lol   you running w/ a gs-t or gsx?

a tach can be needed like RCJ said if his car didnt come with it, but the ones that the ricer hondas get with the shift light are pretty ricey

They think that big tach makes it faster
Then they ignore the shift light when it comes on and rev them till the valves float anyway.

it also depends on the trim of the car too, my gf has a civic DX hatchback and she has a tach, it's an auto too, but she loves my eclipse more than her civic.....i'm slowly converting her.
