Hi guys, I just bought a sweet ''97 3000GT back in January and I can''t for the love of me figure out if it''s the Base or SL model or even SOHC or DOHC.
I''ve been Googling 3000GT engine pics, and have found that DOHC engines have a label on them "V6 DOHC 24V". Mine says nothing except "V6", would this be safe to assume it''s the Base model or are some DOHC''s not labeled?

I can guarentee its DOHC, but the SL is the base.
If you are non turbo, you have an SL

SEBBA Base and SL are two different things on the later 3s cars. The base is only 160HP and the SL is 220. I think one may be SOHC as well

A SOCH 6G72 is news to me, although that would explain the hp difference.
EDIT: Yeah there was a SOHC. Wtf?

Oh and to tell which heads you have just look to see if your front head has one or 2 cams, or 1 or 2 cam gears. should be easy to tell. if you have one then your base if two then your SL

So the Base model had no frills like leather interior, cruise control, ABS?

I couldn''t tell you for sure. It could be just the difference in the head (SOHC Vs DOHC). I can''t see them not offering those options on the SOHC model.

So the webmaster of this site clearly made a typo by labeling this as a a 24 valve SINGLE OVERHEAD CAM engine right? http://japanesemotorsontarioor.com/images/gallery6.jpg
I believe that picture is of a Single Overhead Cam Engine. Notice only ONE Rounded cover at the Cylinder head. If it was a Double Overhead Cam Engine, the cover would be more level at the top and rounded at the ends covering the TWO cams per cylinder head bank.
opps, didn''t see page two of this thread. Pictures above are very good. Showing SOHC first and DOHC second

wow that just answered my question too cuz i have a 95 3000gt but it does not say SL anywhere on the car or in the 3000gt manual booklet
but my car is V6 DOHC 24v so im guessing its SL right?
