OK so I came on here awhile ago having a problem with the idle. I replaced the idle control motor and thought everything would be alright. Apparently I was wrong. My problem right now is that it keeps idling at 2,000 rpms and I can't for the life of me figure out why. The IAC motor is brand new, I took off the throttle and completely cleaned it till it was spotless, I even sprayed carb cleaner around the intake manifold while it was running to see if it would stutter showing if there was any leaks, no stuttering. Also when you turn on the AC the RPMS drop down to like 1,000. I give up, if any body has any ideas, I would greatly appriciate it. Oh also its throwing up the same CEL, error code message saying ideling incorrectly, like I need the CEL to notice. The only thing I have done to it is a cold air intake and catback exhaust. its a 97 GS. Thanks.

i had something like that happen to me a while back while i was cleaning my engine. it turned out that when i wiped the throttle cable it had slipped out of the metal sleeve that mounts to the bracket. when it came out it didnt go back in all the way when i let go after wiping it off. this put more tension on the cable , which made my rpms about 2500. this was just a freak accident but i guess a possibility.

you changed out the idle control motor but have you checked the throttle positioning screw? it's a small screw on the inside of the throttle body that used a flathead to screw in (to increase) or out (to decrease).

just for ****s and gigles try and spray some wd-40 on the spring that the throttle cable pulls and just rev it while spraying. See if that helps cuz i had that problem with my talon.

I tried the WD 40, no luck and I didn't see any screw or a place where one would go in the throttle body. And the cable was good.

oh and eugene, the car doesn't shake and its a manual.

what about a throttle position sensor.

There is that, thinking it might be that sensor?
Any way to test it, maybe by unpluging it or something?

that might work, see if the car runs differently with it unplugged.

It did, it shot the rmps up and then they just started bouncing.

Ok I reset it by taking off the neg batter cable. It now idles at 1,500 and while I am driving it stays at 2,000 untill I come to a complete stop , it will then drop back down after a second to 1,500. I am going to wait for the CEL to come back up and see if anymore error codes come up that didn't come up before. CROSSING FINGERS.

ok so rule that one out, haha. And the reason you couldnt find a idle screw if because the 420a doesnt have one.

ok got a few pics here, i know it's one of 2 places.... so EITHER!!!! in the first pic you have to pop that lil cap off and the scew is inside there OR! in the second one inside that lil hole is the screw. now that you have the pics all you need is somebody that knows what they are talking about to tell you which is correct

the first one i think is it, I just don't know how to get that cap off. The only thing is I don't know how that screw would even moved.

Actually I took a look inside there and that srew is correct because it is closed up when the throttle is all the way back. If I losen or tighten it any, it would cause it to be open slightly.

The code is P1294 and reads injector high side open - bank 2/target idle not reached. I $%@#*! hate that code.

well with that, since you said you already replaced the IAC then i can really only see it being a vaccum leak

I know this is an old post, but I wanted to put the answer to my problem for people doing searches. The reason for the idle problem was the intake manifold gasket, I replaced it, which took me nearly all day, and now I am idling at a nice 800 rpms. The new gasket cost me only seven bucks.
