Hi all,
Just joined the forum and have a few questions. I'm looking at a 2001 Spyder gt convertible with 42,000 miles for 13,000. I think thats a pretty good deal. The car is silver, automatic and is really good condition. Are there any certain things I need to look for and be concerned about? From what I've read these cars run forever. I'm really not into performance, just want something comfortable and sharp looking. I do have one concern, the cover for the top is missing. I did a search and no luck finding any info on replacement. Any ideas where I can get one? Thanks everyone and I look forward to joining the Spyder family.

that is a good deal or about average. I bought my old spyder it was an 02 GT with all options and had 32K on it I paid $15900 for it a year ago. I traded it in with 45K on it and the dealer sold it for more than I paid for it to begin with. They gave me $12500 as a trade and sold it for $16995 with 45K

Thanks guys for your response. I found a boot cover on ebay for 150.00 Also saw a cool fiberglass piece that fits over the back seat to give it a roadster look. Anyone familar with it? Would love to see some pics of it on a car. Kinda looks like it would give it a Solstice look with the 2 humps. Sweet.

If your gonna pay that price tell the dealer that you want them to order you a new cover for it... They have enough of a mark up to do that much for you...

There is a yellow 3g that runs around cincinnati that has the piece you are talking about that goes behind the seats. It looks ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. If the one you are looking at is good quality, I strongly recommend getting it and having it painted to match your car. I'll try to find a picture of it for you and post it up of what this yellow 3g looks like.

Thanks E monz. Great pics. Love the last one. What a sleek looking car. New background for my desktop. I'm kinda concerned with the cars history. Carfax reports 3 owners in the last 3 years. I'm gonna have the dealer order me a new boot if he can't get the previous owner to return it.

Look at the mileage when each of the previous owners gave the car up. It may have been a lease vehicle or something of that sorts. Also check for any outstanding TSB repairs and recalls and have it verified that they've been done. Oher than that depending on how she looks and sound it sounds like you got a good deal goin there. Of course ALWAYS try to jew the dealer down a bit more.

The car averaged 6000 miles the first 2 owners. Then 30,000 this last year. The dealer was asking 14,900 for it. When I test drove it and then went back to haggle, he came down to 13,400. It's amazing what a few " I'll think it over" will get you. 30 day 1000 mile warranty. My last haggle move will be to extend the warranty at leat a year since I'm not familar with these cars. This deal has been going on 2 weeks now and he seems ansy to close the deal by the end of the month. I originally started out looking at Solstices, then drove a mx5 which is more in my price range. Finally settling on an Eclipse. If I could change anything on the car, I wish it was a stick. Other than that it seems like a solid car.
This is it Thanks for all the input.

As it turns out, I found another one that is same price with 32,000 miles. It's a 2001 red gt with tan interior and top. What a sweet combination. Should be mine by weeks end. Perfect timing, here in Pittsburgh it's gonna hit the upper 50's later this week. Question though, When I drove it today the saleman told me not to put the top down cause it's too cold out. He's heard the metal supports may expand and bend. Then there's a chance the top wouldn't line up right and might leak. Ever heard of this problem?

I've heard something about the pins I don't remember where but it's a faint memory try searching the forum and see what you turn up... I recal something about the tops though... I dunno about beause of cold or whatnot but I remember someone having custom parts made for it and selling some cuz he had to order a certain amount to get them made so he had extras....
