Is there such thing?

I have a friend who just got a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT V6 Manual, says its a turbo......now, im not denying it but all in all it doesnt feel much faster than mine, as mine is not a turbo, but i thought the turbo eclipses were the gts, not just the plain old GT? And as far as 2nd generation i thought gsx was turbo? help me out here, hes convinced its a turbo yet cant point out anywhere where it would tell you its a turbo, and also he says it was a factory turbo, mitsubishi only did it to "some" of the eclipses, its not aftermarket.......thanks everybody

No 3g Eclipses come with a turbo...

I have a 03 GTS spyder, and they do not come stock turbo...

It is rather costly to get a turbo on them, 10k ball-park...

So either he did it aftermarket (but i feel you would notice the difference) or he is a liar...

You WOULD notice the difference with a turbo (Ask Tearstone or WPSpyder) but there never was a production forced induction 3G.

thats what i thought.......i think he got ripped off, cause he doesnt know too much about cars, i mean i know how to fix them and stuff but i dont know too much about the performance stuff......we'll take a look, maybe line both of ours up for a race and see, if he wins ill assume the last guy did put in an aftermarket turbo

Just look for it. A turbo kit on a 6g72 would be evident and obvious. But very unlikely. Most turbo'd GT/GTSs dont last very long... Theyre an engineering nightmare. ONLY the 4g63t variation Eclipses and DSMs (which 3G Eclipses are not) have turbo motors from Mitsu. The 6g72tt (which is what Im guessing he thinks hes got) was in the 3000GT.
In short; Theres a 0% chance of it coming from the factory like that, and a 1% chance that theres a turbo on that car at all.

thanks a lot for the pic....that helps, and just looking at it his is deff not a turbo then, i didnt think so it doesnt feel like it.....
 
also, how can u tell a 4g63t variation eclipse or a DSM, just by looking? wat exactly is dsm?

DSM= Diamond Star Motors, aka 1g and 2g Eclipses, Talons and Lasers.

car died after puttin a total of 125k miles on it with the turbo lol puttin a new one in soon

Gotta love it, whos droppin the new motor in? If you have Tampa Bay Mitsu do it (On 19 there near Hudson) Make sure you get Kimmy to get you the engine. Otherwise they can ll be bastards up there... Dont let Ryan install it! He ****ed up royaly on my 6g72 drop in. Coolant lines were split in like 3 places..

russ is going to put my long block together and im taking it to alfred i think to do the tuning and electronics. then im doing the rest of thel labor myself unless mike wants to help hehe

lol, get Team Tearstone on it. I was gonna try to get Russ to install a 6g74 a year or so ago... but then ended up scrapping the project.
