Just Purchased Evo 9

I just purchased a 2006 Mitsubishi Evolution 9 and I came from a 1999 Civic Si (VTEC). All I can say is the Evo moves!!!!

I was wondering if somebody could answer a few questions for me:
1. I'm thinking about purchasing the injen intake with the IC pipe...any thoughts?
2. I heard one of the common EVO problems is the carbon fiber spoiler turning yellow over time. I was reading my manual and it says to use a UV protectant wax. What brand has this?
3. I've been doing a little bit of searching for exhausts and I can't decide which one is the best. I know the 06 Evo 9 comes with 3 inch exhaust so would it just be better to take out the resonator or should the whole exhaust be replaced for more horsepower.

Ok injen make good stuff but I would have to say buy it... but more EVO guys stay away from intake because they cause mis readings by the MAS sometimes... my car runs fine so who knows.
My wing is starting to spot it is more of a white not yellow. also the brembos will turn white as well mine are really bad. I use mequuires wax and it works great.
and for exhaust I didnt know those came with 3 in. mine was 2.25 stick I think. I got megan turbo back sounds awsome (let meknow i can link videos of my exhaust here for ya)
main thing I would buy is an SAFC and have the car tuned I know in the VIIIs the tune was key to gas milage and power

Here are a couple more questions, what is an SAFC? What is a downpipe? I did some looking at the Megan exhausts and didn't find much about them. If you could post a video or sound clip that would be great. Was it a bolt-on job or did you have to take it in to the dealer? Thanks for you assistance.

the down pipe is the pipe that comes from the 02 housing\turbo and runs to the cat. the SAFC is a Super Air Flow Converter it is used to tune the air\fuel ratio in the motor
here are some links to thread that have videos in them

Okay, I'm getting the injen intake w/IC pipe and the Perrin Cat Back Exhaust and downpipe. I'm now looking at a Nitrous Express intercooler chiller kit. Does anybody have any feedback on these? Is this covered under warranty? I would think so because your not making any changes to the internal parts of the engine....right?

Hey, where do you guys buy all your parts for your Evo's.

your warrenty is never safe. Even with bolt ons some dealers with scrap the warrenty on you. It is all up to the dealer you go to.
I buy my guages from tearstone.com and My exhaust is from Megan Racing other than that I go for where ever I can find good prices. EVOm has alot of EVO stuff for sale all the time new and used

I have one question with this. That means that you are keeping your cat then or do they say the downpipe will replace it? If it keeps the cat then the exhaust probably isnt worth the money. Your better off buying an entire turbo back system like megan.

huh??? even with the stock DP and CAT a CAt back is worth the money. desides if someone is buying A DP then they normally come with a test pipe or it is long enough to bypass the cat. Perrin is alot better known than Megan in the EVO world

No, if you replace your downpipe your original cat-back system is still on the car. If you keep the original cat-back system and replace your downpipe then you still will get some gains in horsepower, however the gains will not be as good as they would with an aftermarket cat-back system and downpipe.

that isnt always true there are DPs that bypass the cat other wise I have Megan DP and test pipe. so with Megan needs a Hi flow or test pipe.
I wouldnt run the stock cat on the 3 inch exhaust though aleast by a hi flow or the cali ralli cat

Okay, what about regular maintenance on my Evo 9? From what I've gathered Mobil 1 Synthetic 5-30w is the best oil to use but what about the oil filter? Should I go to the dealer and buy their filter or should I just get one from my local autoparts store?

You should try Quaker State's Q synthetic oil, it's awsome. I always use it and K&N make a sweet oil filter.

Quaker State makes the WORST oil....dont use it. it is known to gum up alot. and DONT use Fram filters either they are known to break down easy and have particles leave it

It is known for being really bad. I have never had a problem with it I used it in my first Eclipse...oh what then again that car did toss a rod threw the oil pan so im not sure, I doubt it is related though.

Well, I did some research and discovered that Mitsubishi Evo's come with Mobile 1 from the factory so I'm going to stick with Mobil 1 oil and filter. The thing that sucks is my jack doesn't fit under my EVO.....can't change the oil.

I'm going to have to drive the EVO up on a couple of boards to get the jack under the car. I just ordered an APEXI turbo timer since I live in the desert and it gets pretty warm in the summer. I took the car back to the dealer a few days ago and got the gauges installed....they look sweet.
Oh, and my first victim was a 2003 Ford Mustang GT.....I didn't even really try YES!!!.

is your car lowered?? why are you haveing trouble with the Jack?. and I could have told you they are born on Mobile1 well that and your oil filler cap only says mobile1 only on it... at least mine does lol.
Isnt it great to beat a mustang GT. I have toasted 2 in the past week or so. beat them extremely bad too hahaha

Oh yeah, the cap does say Mobil 1 huh....hadn't really looked at the cap too much.

As for the jack problem, I'm sure my Evo isn't lowered but I'm using the jacks like they use in the tire shops...got if from Cosco. Maybe the 2006 Evo's are a little lower to the ground...?..?
I'm installing the Turbo Timer next Friday with my brother who has an Evo 8 equipped with an APEXI timer....put it in himself. I'll post some pics of my Evo after I install the Timer.
..and yes, I know I'm not supposed to rev my engine past 4,000 rpm's for the first 1000 miles but the two guys in the mustang were checking out my woman and we know that isn't right......turns out he should've checked out my car first...

Hahahahaha I would have done the same thing. Just go easy for a while lol. a turbo timer isnt a hard install. you will be fine. I def want to see some nice IX pics though. since you are the most active EVO driving member other than me and \_ \_ \_ Bimmer so it is nice to see some EVO life here

actualy i heard that if you have synthetic oil from factory, you should dump it, put in mineral and do some 3rd-4th gear pulls
down the highway, so all the moving parts like piston rings get seated right and "wear in" properly.
I know this sounds retarted, but this is the preffered method fro breaking in a street bike engine, and tests have been done
on same year model milage bikes- with the two methods: the carzy way had better results!!
if they would trust this method for such highly engineered engines, i would trust it for a car...
the thing is the dealer/manufacturer doesent want your engine to last long, so you will buy a new car after 100k miles...
the "baby break in" method is just a conspiracy to raise the economy of the automotive industry.
this is some of what i read on the net about this... dunno sounds crazy doesent it well, i gues one way to truly find out is to do an
engine test of my own...
EDIT: as for oil, go with royal purple synthetic+ THe best oil on the market and actualy proven to increase hp in rotary engines for example, the rotary guys usee this stuff alot.
