hi I'm frankie, just introducing my self
I'm planning on getting a 3g Eclipse over summer but have some questions about it, since I don't really know much about Mitsubishi's in general.
Like do they have alot of mechanical problems? I will be driving about 30- 40(hwy) miles every two weeks.
hp? I don't plan on racing it or running it fast becuase I can't risk it breaking down since I need it for school, work, and to visit the parents, but I want that extra power when I'm on the FWY , so will an intake do?

I will do my own research as time goes by, but just starting off here.

Edit: Would getting an auto or manual make a big difference?

Manual is the way to go...
The 6-cyl (GT/GTS) (6g72) has around 205hp and about 210lb torque.. (Not exact... estimates) and the 4 banger (RS/GS) (4g64) has got something like 140hp...
Injen makes a fine intake for this car... Ive got one on my 3G.

oh and the 4g64 is rated at 147-155hp to the crank. while the 6g72 is 200(gt)-210(gts)

they are rated like that.. yes... 200 for the gt and 210 for the gts... minus the 15percent drivetrain. which i only got around 160 with a cai and a full exhaust..

As far as mechanical issues are concerned if your getting a used Eclipse it really all depends on the previous owners of the car and how well they maintained it. I have lucked out so far (knock on wood) and havent had any major problems aside from the usual changing plugs and changing timing belt. But overall they are actually pretty reliable if theyre taken care of. I have a '01 RS 5-speed and she's got 107k miles on her.

For the miles you'll be putting your should be alright with the car. But yeah 5-speed all the way! And if your not really looking for power to the wheels then I'd say go for the 4 banger. She will get alittle more milage at the pump than the V6

Like I said... estimates.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful. I will be looking for one under 60k miles. I'm leaning towards the 4g64 since I want to save as much money as I can, but time will tell. I'll keep u guys updated, just in case u want to see what I ended up with.

also another thing to keep in mind is that the GT has to have premium gas. (at least my 01 dose. idk if they changed it later on) but ya.. if your lookin to keep prices down, go with the 4g64 (no premium gas, and better mileage)

i will be buying a Spyder next month , i was uncertain before, because i was shooting for a BMW, but with payments, insurance, maintenance, i will be left with no money. Anyways, i would like personal opinions about the back seats, can 3 people fit? or only 2?

Dont even attempt to put 3 people back there. Back seats on an Eclipse= SFS (Strctly for show)

sucks... well since my last car was a 2 seater, i was hoping to get more room, but still keep the sport-ish look. at least this one has seat belts(let alone seats!) in the back. i'm going to check out my friend's spyder within the week. since i don't have a car at the moment i can't really go check it out at a dealer, only internet research for the time being.

Its not as bad as all that. I mean, you can get 4 people in them, (I know Ive had to) it just aint real comfy.
