Anyone pulled the head unit?  Just wondering what the inputs on the rear are and any tips for removing the dash panels - I want to add a rearview camera (wife insists) and don't want to f*** anything up.  Thanks for your help.

What head unit do you have for starters? The standard one or the navigation head unit?

As noted in the subject line - MMCS (Mitsubishi Multi Communication System - i.e. Nav)

Sorry it was late and I over looked that in the title. Soundcolor might be able to help you out with getting the head unit out and getting behind the panels. He did a write up on installing a sub here http://www.mitsubishiforum.com/m_110745/tm.htm Nice guy, if you PM him he might  be able to give you some pointers on getting the head unit out. GL.

Anybody knows who make this Navigation unit for Mits?

no clue, most likely tho, its a proprietary unit built by mitsubishi.
Most automakers build, and design their own, which is why most of the systems on the market share none of the same information.
They build it, contact a gps firm, make a contract for the information, and download that info into their own system.

Not for sure that mitsu doesnt have it built by somebody else, Just not sure they do.

ok I see... It could be interesting to get a detailed manual for it - like what connection options there is on the back(also the connection under the flip out screen), how you update it and etc...

It seems like a lot of dealers don't know anything about it.

I presume the unit is made by Mitsubishi Electric but can't confirm that - the GPS software is from Navteq - according to the manual, you can update the software with an update disc from your dealer once they are available.

I would bet on a mitsubishi made head unit. Otherwise some other company would have its named stamped in view.

Hey Soundcolor - when you pulled your radio you said in your other post that you just pulled the vents on either side - did you do this by hand, use pliers, etc. and how much force did you need to apply?  I tried pulling with just my fingers but couldn't get them to budge and I don't want to break anything (unless I have to ).  It looks like the vents are also molded as part of the silver piece dash cover?

Please let me know if I'm way off base here - thanks.

by hand.
i  used small, very thin blade flathead screwdriver on the bottom edge to pry it out a lttlefirst, then removed the rest of the way by hand.
the vents are molded into the silver cover, you have to remove the whole vent surround (each side is its own individual piece).
Hope that helps

Exactly, when you find your self to the point where you want to start ripping panels out and bashing them with a hammer, go drink a 6 pack and call it a day.
