Hola gst , I from P.R my experience with air filter is that here we dont if the used  air filter because that cause a resistance in the motor. In the mitsubishi if the light turn on that dinndt affect the performance of the car. I have a mirage ls and dindt have flow meter I eliminated the flow meter sensor. The light of check engine turn on but I take the car to the Dyno  that give more horse power and have the check engine light on the car run more fast in that way. Very close menssage use iceman of pvc tube are efectives.

does the aftermarket air filter have a mass air flow sensor on it? because if it dosen't the engine will set a code to make the check engine light com on, your local dealership should be able to clear the code and fix the problem. let me know what you find out and if you have any more problems.

I installed aftermarket on my 02 es and have not experienced these problems but the kit I put on did not interfere w/ factory sensor box. I'm gonna say you've pulled a plug on something in the sensor box.
