I've been looking for some door protection for my 07 Outlander for a while. The Euro Mitsubishi bodyside molding is nice, but would cost about $400 without paint.
So I did some research and found out that
www.Sportwing.com now makes a kit for the 07 Outlander, even though it's not listed on their site yet. It comes pre-painted, just give them the paintcode from
www.paintscratch.com and they match the color. I ordered mine on Sunday and it arrived on Friday. The color match is perfect and the shape fits nicely.
The kit is 4 pieces, cut at the correct angle for between the doors. They use 3M tape and provide 2 alcohol wipes, 2 Pro-Bond adhesive promotor bottles, and an instruction sheet that goes through the process and gives measurements. They call for 8 1/4" up from the black lower sill in front, and 9 1/4" in back. I found that to be a little low so I went 8 1/2 and 9 1/2.
The installation was quick and easy, it took me about 20 minutes max. Here are some photos:

The red was tape used as a guide.
The painted set is $99.

Not bad. But my Outlander is already black, so I guess I can go with the OEM one for a few $ less. I think that deal is very good though for those with other colors. But I just wonder, it looks too low on the pics. I saw some pictures with OEM moldings on and it's mounted almost on the middle part of the door.

I'm kind of looking for a set.. I've already got one door ding..and I'm thinking it could cover the ding and prevent future ones..plus they add a little interest to the sides, while still looking clean

The US OEM are graphite colored, so they won't match perfectly on black. The EU OEM are available painted or unpainted, but they're all over $400.
You can mount the sportwing moldings any height you want, I just went by their recommended measurement. It matched up well with an Accord door when I tested the height for protection. They are now listed on the
www.sportwing.com web site, and the photo they show has them mounted several inches higher than where I mounted mine. Dunno which location is better...

Oh it's graphite? I always thought it was the regular black rubber, looking at the pics. So I have to ask the dealer again then. Yeah, I just want the black one. Yeah, you can never trust the idiot that parks beside you. Sometimes I think they do it on purpose. Getting envious of the shiny new Outlander of yours, while they drive some beaten up sedan.

The mouldings I've seen installed by the dealer were a silver..don't recall if it matched the XLS silver trim pieces or not.

It could actually be ordered to the body color you want, I still have to ask. But yeah, that's interesting to know it's offered in other colors. You got me thinking there if I should get a silver one, so at least I get some contrast with a black background.

My outtie is graphite grey. what color of molding should match? Is the $99 molding same as the OEM?

You only have one choice of color for OEM, it's not an exact match for the Graphite Gray cars, but sort of close.
If you want the Sportwing molding you normally just grab the paint code from
www.paintscratch.com but it looks like they don't list Graphite Gray as an option. I'd suggest getting the paint code from the door jam and email or call Sportwing.
The OEM molding is different than the Sportwing molding.

biscuit, thanks for link. but i want something like this (link) on the 6th and 7th pic.
http://www.freewebs.com/zontarh/ you see the side silver/gray molding on the doors? thats the style and color I want. But do any of those have in the US?

Nobody has those in the US, they are a Euro part. You can order them from Zontarh, but they're expensive... $400+ and you still have to paint them.

biscuit,
It's been a few months now since your post so i wanted to get your feedback on the moldings.
Are you door moldings still holding up well?
Any peeling of the double sided tape?
Do you find that your installation height works well to prevent dings?
Any discoloration of the moldings with weather?
Thanx
