Well, my neighbor has two 1st gen eclipses and he made me a deal. His daughter does not want to drive a stick shift so he said he would trade them for an automatic car that runs good and so on. So today I found a car that Im gonna buy to get the eclipses. Its a 1994 Chevy Cavalier for only $250. Im probably gonna buy it this weekend.
I dont know anything about mitsubishi but im sure I can learn quick. The stick shift one works and the automatic I am gonna use for parts. My questions are, what are some of the first things I should do to these things, just to free up some hidden power. As soon as I get the eclipses Ill take some pics and post them. Oh and it has 140000 miles on it, is this motor still good or is it shot?

Id get no matter what model they are, you could always resell them or part them out and get a pretty good profit.

Turns out its a gs model. The car I got for $250 is actually pretty nice, I kinda dont know If I should trade it or not lol. Its a 1992 Chevy Cavalier 3.1L Z24 Package, and it runs awsome.

lol i can guarantee you that the cavalier is faster then the eclipse you were looking at. the gs is NOT fast at all and they are extremely difficult to make fast.

Estraw if you remember in the 1st gens the GS could also be a turbo. There was no such thing as a GSt. But my guess is its a GS. Let us know when you get them and show some pics of the engine bay so we can let you know what kinda things you can do. If they are both only a GS non turbo then your options are pretty limited

true, but if he's getting that car and another car for 250 bucks, im guessing its non-turbo

The automatic is just a plain eclipse and it is only going to be used for parts. The manual is a non turbo gs. Here is a pic of the car I bought, Im still not sure If I should trade yet.

Oh god a Z24. I would get rid of that thing. The only 2 people ive known that had them, one being my brother, had nothing but problems, even after a brand new motor it still had problem. Its not a bad looking car for its time, and has some decent getup, but they suck

I heard that this 3.1 in it is bulletproof and last forever. This car has 170,000 miles on it and still runs like its brand new so im starting to believe it. I redid the headliner the other day, it came out awsome. I donno if my neighbor is even gonna trade me anymore so o well. I guess I wont be a member of the mitsubishi family lol. I still have my scion tc to keep me happy!

Congrats on the Z24. I am also a member of th J-Body.org ( Cav03) . It is an exelent forum for cavy/sunfire/sunbird owners! I hate to hear that Engineer's brother had trouble with his. My cousin had a red Z24 for 10 years. All she had to do in 175,xxx miles was replace the water pump (twice), alternator, fuel pump, and had 1 head gasket that let go at 165xxx ish miles. (Thats why the car was traded off). I can replace both head gaskets on a GM 3.1 in a saturday afternoon under the "shade tree". Its no biggy. Overall, the 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, and 3.8 GM motors were (are!) very reliable. But I have to give credit where credit is due, my puny little 1.8 Mitsu motor, although EXTREMELY underpowerd, is one tough sob! :)
I had a 2003 Cav. LS Sport coupe. Great power for the 30+ mpg's I was getting! But the seats were horrid! After 100 miles my back & tailbone were killing me! I can drive my 2007 Ram 1500 for 8 hours and feel great when I get out.

Hey thanks for the link, im gonna check it out now. Ya Ive heard alot of good things about this car, which makes me kind of want to keep it. So far I have put in a new headliner, fixed the interior that was broken and in pieces and somewhat fixed an exaust leak. While I had the exhast apart the only thing muffling the car was the cat and it sounded awsome!! Kind of like a flowmaster muffler, Im thinking about getting the stock muffler taken off and leaving the cat to use it as a muffler, this thing sounds like a beast without that muffler!
