New paint job?

I was planning on getting the dents and scratches on my GST fixed...and having it painted a bright white. Im really getting bored of the dullish burgundy color. Is Maaco (spelling) a good place to get it painted? Or should I go to those professional private business paint shops? Never really did my research on paint shops, thanks.

Put it this way... its cheap for a reason. You would be better off having a bunch of mexicans with paint brushes paint your car

Maaco is a joke. to put it into perspective... maaco = paint like ebay = performance

The reason maaco is so cheap with their paint jobs is because they skimp on prep work and sanding. and they dont do enough with the clear coats so they will be fading within a couple years. Not a good idea do go there. And just to give you an idea of what a good paint job should cost you, im having the exterior of my car painted in a couple weeks and they quoted me $2500

To get my body kit put on, the 3 dents removed, and my car changed to black, I was quoted $5,300. *the good paint job where they do your door trim as well*

To have a body kit put on is ALOT more money. Especially if its fiberglass. Thats why you had such a high price. And you wanted a color change. My quote was the stock color and not having a body kit fit on

If your dad is an auto body guy it cost about 300 for a full paint job using dupont products and 3 coats of clear. Otherwise getting a full paint job is costly.

There is a guy a mile from me with an auto body/paint shop. He repainted my bumper on my '02 S-10 Xtreme and clear coated it for $100 and it looks better than brand new.
If I get a body kit of some sort, I'll be asking him to do it for me. Especially since he's a mile from my house.

sounds like a rich guy that doesn't want/need to make any money. it would cost just about 100 bucks just for the paint for a bumper.

i don't see why anybody pays ppl to install body kits... i put mine on by myself not knowing diddly crap about cars, body work etc etc. it took me about 3 days but got it done and looked great. now granted i had a company mold it in but a lot of ppl don't do that.

Well I don't live in a high priced area, so it's not like he needs/could charge too high a price for the paint job. My family knows him pretty well, so it's possible he did it at or around cost. Plus I paid cash which probably helped.
Great guy and has been doing body restorations and painting for a long time, so he's got the know how.

He didnt use 100$ to buy that little bit of paint and clear. More than likely if he paints alot then he had all the little things laying around and it cost alittle bit for some paint.

mixing paint to make a particular color isn't a simple job. unles he has his own shop or paint booth he would have to buy it from a company.

Oh im not saying its simple to mix paint but if he went and bought some paint then a small pint isnt very expense especially if its a stock color done by paint code.

I had a small dent removed just shy of my drivers side door near the rear 1/4 panel from a hit and run sideswipe and it cost me $1180 plus he painted my gas cap too.

well my paint job on my car plus the molding of my body kit only cost me 1500 bucks and for the first week or so i was soooo psyched about it but after getting used to it i started picking out flaws and wow... you REALLY get what you pay for! my front bumper is chipped all to hell, the paint scratches pretty easy... just not good quality, and not to mention that they didnt prime it... how stupid is that?

thats why i dont feel bad spending 2500 on a paint jpb knowing im gonna get really good quality, especially when i plan on having this car for a while

i don't blame you, if i would have known how mine would be 1 year later i would have happily paid an extra 1k for it.

well make sure you did a good job on the prep work, because really, thats the most important part is the sanding and priming

when i first got my eclipse it was that dull silver and i hated so i got a body kit (installed Myself

) and got someone to paint it for 300 (labor) and 250 for paint.....it was worth it with the exception on minor runs in the clear coat and he didn't wipe off the door handles so the oil from his/my hands were still on there so itkinda bubbled up
