Hey guys.. I haven't even looked for them yet but I hear they're in weird places... so if someone could help explain where the oil and fuel filters are located it would be greatly appreciated.

As you can see in my sig, I have a '97 Eclipse RS.

Thanks.

---found the oil filter, easy as pie.. should have looked before I asked, lol... still need to know where the fuel filter is. thanks again

Fuel filter should be located right behind your battery against the firewall. It's round, and black. it has a banjo bolt on the top of it. It's the BITCH to get that bold off. Good luck. Remove your battery, and battery well for easier access. Just undo the bolts holding in the well...There should be 4.

Thanks man... and two more things... what the hell is a banjo bolt? and what kind of oil filter do our lovely DSMs take?

Also.. what is it with metric threads and standard threads? I'm guessing mistu is metric threaded??

Most cars these days have metric I don't think they use standard anymore... The oil filter you should be able to look up at your auto store. I think for the fram it's the PH 3605 But I'm pulling this outta my head so check before buying. I used to be able to spit out the Might oil filters but it's been a while and I can't anymore LOL. Like I said check the auto parts store. Also I'd look into the pureolator 1 I was using it on my truck before I got rid of it it filters out more than regular filters.

I looked it up on advanceautoparts.com, autozone.com, and fram.com and it was a TG16 Tough Guard (if I wanted tough guard) .. and I did, so I bought a TG16. lol

That's a banjo bolt. I believe the ultimate use of it is to ensure a leak does not ensue.

Banjo bolts are teh ones with the hole in them aren't they? And they're hollow in the center.. So you can bolt the line to the filter instead of using the flange method. I actually like the banjo bolts they are a bit easier in my opinion than trying to line up the flange JUST right then getting the threads started and hoping not to crossthread...

Alright, filter is on, oil is changed, and an odd something-a-nother happened... my CEL has went out... I was told by the previous owner that it was a bad sensor.. I didn't worry about it.. its been on since I got it about a month and a half ago.. never flickers.. its ALWAYS on.. change my oil... drive it around and it never comes on.. whats up with that? .. also I found out someone must have bottomed out in it before because the oil pan is slightly dented and there's a dent on my exhaust pipe right before the bend to the header. Freakin' crack head drivers.

Anyways, thanks for the help with the fuel filter location.. haven't checked yet but I'll take your word on it.

Wow change the oil and the CEL goes away.... THAT'S a new one... Well whatever works.... lol maybe you knocked something off a sensor...

Possibly.. who knows?.. but what kind of sensor is by the oil filter and pan?.. I have no clue, dont know the first thing about sensors other than they sense things, lol.

I dunno... Maybe it was a sensor elsewhere just happened to get hit or perhaps the angle you had it jacked up at.... LOL... Have to read the CEL codes and find out what they were.

How exactly would I "read" the CEL code?... I don't exactly have a garage outside with a bunch-O-fancy tools.

LOL go to Autozone or Pep Boys or Advance they should be able to read it for you free. Then whatever code they tell you write it down and post it so we can research it. Or if you know someone that has access to the Snap On Scanner II or the MAC Mentor they could read it for you as well.

did you replace the gasket on the oil plug if not "use the vinyl ones" than you might get small drip in teh drive way nothing big but i found it to be that way with my old 95 gs.

*Tip: ez way to replace the gasket without removing the oil is get somone to hold a vacuum where the oil is pored into the motor and you sould not lose much oil.*

Sanguinius: If my CEL doesn't come on again I don't see why I need to get it checked, but if it does come on, I'll keep your tip in mind.

get435: There was no gasket on the oil pan bolt (oil plug?)... just a washer. Didn't need to be replaced.

ya that washer gasket whatever you would like to call it but not saying it will but lie i said in my gs i had to change it every time or i would get a small dot of oil on my driveway :(

I'd get the CEL read anyways so that you KNOW what exactly was the problem. It MAY have been a fluke and thrown a garbage code on you. But get it read and cleared out so that next time something goes wrong and you get the CEL the mechanic won't see the OLD code and try to fix a problem that is no longer there. Know what I mean?

Yeah, I see what you're saying, but knowing me I still won't get it checked ... I'm a stuborn little bastard.
