power steering?

Hi everyone! I have a 97 Eclipse RS and about 6 months ago a weird sound started up whenever I turn left or right. Brought it to the mechanic and said that it was my power steering. Got that fixed for about $300 and yesterday a similar sound started again! I don't wanna have to pay another 300 bucks, for a car that's already paid off and thought that I'd start saving $$ instead of getting another car and making payments.

Has anyone had this problem with the power steering before? Any tips/suggestions?

that happened to my friends car, and he just bought some power steering fluid from target.. and it fixed the sound..

puffy -- thanks for the reply. But no such luck, the sound is still there. The first time it happened the sound was as loud during driving and today, its louder to the point where I'm even embarrased. The car is driving fine, just the noise that's attracting unwanted lookers.

Any other thoughts?

Clarissa-- Same thing happened with my 95 eclipse. If its a loud squeaking noise you should probably have your altenator belt checked out. My car made loud noises when I turned for about 2 weeks and all of a sudden my altenator belt popped off on the interstate which left me with no power steering at all

same problem with mine. was told a bolt was missing on the power steering pump that tightens the power steering belt. but mitsu doesn't provide the bolt and i had to change the whole pump at almost 300 including labor. have yet to do so now that i'm out of town for summer. how about the tires? worn out?

have u any problems with ur eclipse besides the power steering, cfoxx? i just got my 95 eclipse not too long ago, and it has quite a few cosmetic problems.

They did replace the pump last November. Could something be loose?
I'll definite have the alternator belt checked out.

Clarissa - if it's the belt, it may be more of a squeeling sound.. I'd take it back to the mechanic that fixed it in November. Hopefully you have the receipt and there is a warranty on it. If the pump went bad, then it should get replaced for free.
