hey everyone i bought a 1999 eclipse GST off ebay and when i went to get it inspected and checked since it shut off while i was driving. they told us about a bunch of problems with the car. The differtential is on backwards tried to be set up back wheel drive or AWD. theres a different computer in it and the dealership couldnt get into the computer! the tranny is gonna go out with the way its setup and i have free flowing emissions so thats not inspectable! i want to get an 05 evo 8 MR for 30K but my dad thinks we should take a loan out and fix the eclipse! I was thinkin new engine and tranny put an evo engine in??? is that possible? or a new engine with a gt35r turbo or a 20g since i got the money to fix it! What does everyone think would be the best!?

it should be possible for an evo conversion to be done but with a lot of modifications,i got a 96 gs-t with a 99 gs-t engine and its a fun car,but i dont know too much abouth conversions, but if its possible for the evo then do it

well you cant put an evo engine in it but you can get an engine from any turbo eclipse from 1990 - 1999

my stuggestion would be to get an engine (or at least the block [6 bolt]) from a 93-94 eclipse gst/gsx, it's built much better than the 95-99 gst/gsx engine (7 bolt - it's notorious for crankwalk) aparently you're gonna need a new Tranny so go ahead and get it, as for the computer... you can either get a new one for the car (not sure of the cost) or you could get a stand alone for it. you can easily throw a 20g turbo on to the 4g63 and run it hard no problem. as for the emissions, you can throw a high flow cat on it and be fine (read an article in "Import Tuner" about the HP difference going from stock cat - high flow cat - test pipe and the hp gains were like 1-2 hp) any other questions, feel free to ask.

well actually the 93-94 also came with the 7 bolt block. Its the 90-92.5 that came with the 6 bolt

whoa... thanks!! i was always under the impression that all the 1g eclipses had the 6 bolt. UTREVO if you have money to build up the car i would suggest looking at BusharRacing.com they have an awesome 6 bolt selection, stock, stage 1, 2, and 3 with the matching heads that are capable of holding well over 600hp.
