Yeah...i'm with Prophet here....

But you *could* make it RWD....just take the engine from the front, drop it in back, and you'll have a mid-engine monster. It really doesn't cost all that much either, if you can weld then you'll save a load of cash. Swap the front and rear suspension, get rid of A/C, Power steering, everything that drives off the engine. You *can* use the Electric Power Steering system from a 2nd gen MR2...
Of course you've figured out that this whole swap will be easier if you're using an Automatic transmission, but other than that, everything else should be fine. Wiring will be a pain, and figuring out which way you want to run the radiator is gonna be kind of though....But it is very do-able. So there you go....one way to make a RWD DSM.

Yeah, there's a procedure on how to make the AWDs RWD, but i hear it's real risky and can't hold a lot of power. I've only seen one rwd dsm. It was a 1g talon, and the guys center diff locked up and only the rear wheels got power. I saw the video of him doing a burnout, it was pretty cool.

why would you want to ruin a perfectly good AWD by making it RWD? im confused... I'd take AWD over anything, anyday. I know it weighs more, but its so nice

whats better for drags? rwd? awd isnt even that good for drag. we had a teacher who liked cars so he gave us a project to take a car and find the best takeoff setup. we spent a few weeks and used the schools cars for testing. the awd has a better 60' but gennerally the added weight and drivetrain loss hurts the top end.

Yeah the awd will pull ahead at the beginning but then the rwd will catch up fairly quick.

Another reason(and probably most often overlooked reason) is drivetrain loss. Full time AWD like the DSM's and scooby's suck up power ALL the time. So if the engine is making 300hp, the drivetrain is soaking up about 20%. RWDs don't soak up as much power, prolly only 12-15%, and FWDS soak up the least amount, sometimes as little as 5% depending on manufacturer technology. Manufacturer's are aware of this and quite a few have developed AWD systems that give a 50/50 torque split front and rear when needed. Of course they'd put this technology only on their flagship cars, or major sports cars. The most popular car, and prolly the best example, is of course the Skyline GTR. During take off, the drivetrain can make the torque split as much as 50:50 front to rear, giving it a good chance of translating all the power to the ground. After take off though, the front wheels don't do much to propel the car since most of the weight has "shifted" to rear, so the wonderful ATTESA System is capable of giving a 1:99 torque split front to rear, effectively making the car RWD and making use of all the weight transfer to gain traction. I think the r32's and r34's can do a 0:100 split, while the r33's are only limited to 1:99......but why am i talking about Nissan's in a Mitsu forum?
