when i put my new intake and adapter on my outlancer it began to miss quite a bit but when i would reinstall the old intake the missing was gone. so i thought maybe it was a vacuum leak. I took the initiative and sealed the adapterwith a gasket maker. i thought the problem was fixed but after a few minutes of driving the rough idle an miss returned. now the original intake is on the car and it runs fine. Any ideas?
What kind of intake are you putting on?
Can you take any pictures?

If your check engine light is on - the ecu is registering a code. It is doubtful that this will simply disappear.
You need to have the code read to diagnose what the problem is.

computer problem... fuel map air- fuel ratio needs to be reprogrammed.. remember- if this is done- it voids mitsu warranty. 2 choices- either put stock back on, or lose warranty and have a mechanic reprogram....

been workin w/ air intakes for a while...i, even modifies tubing. been doin that since my 97'mirage,00' eclipse r.s. and 87' starion. and now planning to do the same w/ my outlander, which is equipped w/ 4 1/2 filter and 4' adapter. but so far none of them fail.you may want to shave the adapter opening, sometimes those adapters have small opening (air). i, did that to my brother's 03' lancer, after shaving the lips,(adapter) car went smooth. another thing, check the sensor inside the hive for damage.
