hello,
i am about to buy a 98 or 99 eclipse but i have few questions.
* what is the difference between the GS and the RS ?
* i am planning to modify the car (turbocharger). is it better to buy one with a built-in turbo or buy the non turbocharged one then modify it ?
* i have read someone's post about problems with the transmition in most of eclipses. how to overcome those problems ?
thanks in advance
I have a 96 Rs . like grindin gears said, no options at all. But depending the way your doin your eclipse , it maybe better that way . And my car has the 420a motor which is chrysler neon motor but is strong as hell. Engine has alot of potential. Turbocharger goes , 10 lbs is about right for this motor. i just bought mien 4 months ago and still blue printing the car ...
if you want quality buy a factory turbo car GS-t or GSX . both come with the t25 turbo... and produce 210 hp...
i have 2 friends with rs and gs turbo addon kits, and they spent lots of monet building the motor to withstand the turbo kit.. remember the rs and gs have a slightly moded neon motor.. it wasn;t built for turbo.. yeah it might last a while with a turbo, but how long? buy a GS-t or GSX..
i like the GSX just because of the All Wheel Drive....
You can build a good 420a turbo motor easy. You just need a good base turbo kit and if you choose stronger rods like eagle or crower and low compresion pistons or turbo piston like JE or Arias. I have a Nice Gs for sale with only 67000 miles on it the engine is tip top shape no modaficatons at all. I have access to a full turbo kit for it front mount intercooler and everything you need to just bolt on. Its very simple. I also can get you a nice set of 19 Racing hart C2s for it for a good price. Email me back and well talk. I can give you all the info you need. And compresion is not to low on a gs or rs its 9 to 1 and thats better for a turbo you want low compresion when running a turbo. A high compresion turbo engine like 11 to 1 or even 12 to 1 will not last long at all unless you have the block sleeved.
with stronger pistons and rods.
Yea a stock gst is about 210 hp thats turbo 2.0 and a stock gs or rs is about 135hp. You can easly find a turbo kit for 80+ to 100hp+ for about 2 to 3000$
Check www.hahnracecraft.com They make a good turbo kit. I Can get one pretty cheap.
