i have a '00 montero sport and i pulled out my anti-theft stereo to retreive a cd or two that had slipped in the crack above it. i didn't unhook any wires and thought i would be okay... nope. it asked for my code so i tried the last on my vin, and some other crap. after three errors it reads OFF and you get no reponses. i've since found my anti-theft code, but can't get it to stop reading OFF.
how the heck do i reset that sucker?
some help would be much appreciated.

Have you tried disconnecting your battery and leaving it disconnected for 15-30 seconds? That should reset the entire system and have it asking for the code again.

i actually called the dealership. they told me to leave the car and stereo on (acc) for one whole hour to clear the computer cycle. it worked, and i was able to put my code in. whew!

Normally the dealership will give you a card that will tell you. Check your owners manual.

just call the dealer you will need the ser# on your stero so you will have to pull it out.
