hey not that i dont like 3000GT's, i own one, its just that a 300zx has an inline six, so it would be a little bit faster than a stock sl. ummm 0 - 60 for a stock sl, is probably 8 secs. and for a 300zx non turbo, 7 secs. quarter mile, for a 3000GT is like 16.4 and for a 300zx is probably like 15 sumthin.

Per a Car&Driver issue of the times, a Stealth ES and a 300Z were very close in all parameters measured. The Z had the edge in most categories though, mostly due to it being RWD. With the age of the cars now, I would say that it would be drivers race with the edge going to the better maintained of the two. The SL may be at more of a disadvantage than the ES due to a few extra pounds it carries.
Magazine racing...yeah I know.

well I have personally owned both and I can say I like them both. The NA in both cars are CLOSE, and the RWD in the Z will help with launch, but the FWD loses a little less HP to the ground. With a good launch in the FWD the Stealth ES SHOULD and COULD beat the Z. But thats ALL THING BEING EQUAL. Its a total drivers race. Cant wait to see your results!

The second guy who reported here is a total moron, don't listen to him.
First off, a bone stock DOHC NA on both are almost identical specs, they have the same HP, but the 6G72 produces 15 lb-ft of torque more - Advantage, 3S. The RWD of the 300Z and the lighter weight (by about 300lbs) will give it a clear advantage in takeoff unless the 3S has a damned good driver. Having owned both, I can say that after takeoff, they get to 60 in almost the same time, and the 3S is a lot quicker once you pass abour 130. There is no advantage whatsoever to the Z just because that person thinks it has an inline six - in fact I would like to think that the V 6 I had in my Z was no fluke considering every other Z I have seen also had a V6. If anything, an inline is a major detractor as they don't produce as much HP and can't rev as high which means more shifting and longer times accelerating. Inline engines also generally do not produce as much torque. The clear advantage for an inline though, is that compared to a V, flat or rotary engnie, they are indestructable and very mdable.
To the second person who posted:
Yes, the 300z is 222hp with 186 torque
but the 3S DOHC NA ( SL engine) is 222hp 201tq
I am abstaining my vote, because there are simply two major variables - Driver and maintenance. If I had to vote, I would vote 3S for my love of the platform, but I would have to know both cars and drivers before I would place a bet of any kind.
EDIT: Sorry for spelling and grammatical errors. I am making the mistake of posting this from my PVR computer, so it is not only hard to read well on my TV, but my IR keyboard is also not that responsive to my fast typing.
