In my 2001 mitsubishi eclipse GS there is a strange clicking noise in the engine. The car has a rebuilt tranny, a new clutch, and at first I thought it was the valves tapping.... but on closer inspection it proved to be behind the engine head. What is back there? LOL I have never had to tear that section apart. anyone with experience please help......

FYI: the tick goes away at 1700 RPM and is most noticeable at idle... I idle at 600RPM

I agree, sounds like lifters. It sounds like you have a "few" miles on your car. Make sure you run the proper grade of oil for your driving and weather conditions and maybe try the high mileage oil.

yeah about 105 thousand...... I full synthetic for high milage in there now..... think I try real oil or a blend ..... that should make a difference..... it annoys me.... it makes my car sound like ****...... my oil pump is starting to go and I plan to replace it soon.... the only thing is that the ticking is not coming from the head itself but behind it .... the head runs smoothly and is quiet....

NO! Never go from synthetic to real or a blend. Very bad! Synthetic is the best anyway. Simply get an additive for the oil and it should go away

I'll try the additive that my fiance keeps trying to get me to add .... any suggestions?
