there is an eclipse that is targa topped, if you got it off of ****s.com then it's real.  I love the way it looks

Too bad i bet the car would have lost a lot of structural integrity

See... Ive wanted to do this to my Talon for years... Ive seen that same photo, and its real. As per Sebs thing, yes it prolly did. as hes put reinforcement bars across the roof. But I dont get why... When the convertible version of the eclipse lowers its top it would have the same problem no?

No the actual frame of the Spyder is different.

that definetly is real. I remember reading a whole article on it from the guy. He did alot of structural work so that it wont start destroying the chasis. So it still is pretty strong. But he spent alot of time and money on doing that right

Seb (or TE), what is it in the frame that supports it differently? Some kind of crossmember? I mean, how much diff. can the frame possibly be?

They use brackets and stronger frame. Thats why they weigh so much more than a hard top. The hardtop of a normal car plays a huge role in the stiffness of the frame, cut that out and you are gonna have major problems. So there is a pretty considerable difference between the two.

Ok, so lets say one could get a hold of a convertible DSM, could they just (in short) remove the soft top and its components (retractor motor and all) remove the trunk lid and weld a hard top in its place then cut a targa in? Im sure theres more to it, but you get what I mean...

thats alot of work. Im sure it could be done

lol, it couldnt be worse than putting a 4g63 in a 420a frame LMAO... Seriously though, I feel as if it would be rather rewarding.. though if I tried it myself  it would end up looking like this in the end...

Here's more pics of that 2G Targa.

That is a lot of reinforcing just to have a targa top IMO.  Even after putting in a roll cage, the body can still twist because the structures stress point has been moved from the roof to the floor and without a frame the floor will still twist....this is commented towards the AWD trims btw...this is also the same for the AWD converted Spyder(s).

some reason the 2g eclipse's had a similar body to the supra.

seeing that targa top makes the difference a hell of alot closer .... AND its 3x as sexy as the original.

yea but supras cost tons of money. they are awesome but thats more money then i haev to spend on a car. i think the targa top lots kinda cool, i personally wouldnt do it, mostly because of all the wrok it would take, but i think its neat.

That looks nice man. I would love for my Eclipse to come that way. Im more of a sun person
when it comes to things like that. I love it when it shines up your interior and puts some life
into the car. If i had the money I would get that done to my Eclipse.
