My car smokes pretty bad in the morning when its cold and then sometimes when i downshift it smokes white. The guy whos doing my clutch said it was probably my rings which i know is pretty expensive to fix. Will it cause a problem if i keep driving like this?

your probably running rich. I doubt its the rings. But a good idea would be to try and do a compression test just to rule out any engine failure issues. Do you have a check engine light? oh and what are your mods

Are you sure its 'smoke' and not just steam?

catless exhaust will smoke alot too. Do a compression test post the Numbers we can tell you if your motor is healthy with that. I bet its nothing to worry about but without seeing it I cant be sure of course

alright. something is ****ed up. My car is huffing oil from the exhaust which it always has done but now the smoke kind of smells like gas. Im gonna sell it but what exactly is the problem?

is cause you have no cat. All turbo cars burn a little oil , even my Evo. all turbo cars with no cat smoke out of the exhaust, and all turbo cars run rich , and depending on mods and the car somtime rich enough that it smells and can burn your eyes (like my Evo)

Yeah my car used to run so rich id start crying, lol id be all teary eyed and ppl thought I was balling my eyes out,lol and are u gunna sell ure car just cuz of the smoke? Cuz if so then its ridicolous, cuz most the time its nothing serious and did u do that compression test yet?

Alright. this is pretty good because i didnt really want to sell it i just cant put the money into it right now. I will get the compression test done and try to get it to run a little less rich and probably keep it.
Then i'll buy the wideband and tune it with the safc and fix the boost and ****. thanks guys.

hahaha.. ok so here is a story for ya. my first car i riced out lol. I was just starting to get into cars and i put a Buddy Club Aftermarket muffler on it. I liked the sound so much i would rev my motor ALOT.. best part it was an automatic. lol, so at the same time i ****ed up my motor hard core and blew my tranny out. And after that when i would start the car, it would literally shoot little sprits of oil, gas, and coolant out of the muffler. Showed that chevy Malibu what's up.. HAHA

Dude, I have a full 3 inch Apexi N1 exhaust system with a high flow cat on my '99 GS-T and mine has a hint of "white smoke" as you call it...Even carbon build up on the end of the muffler too that may look like oil...The fumes make my eyes water when I fire it up in the garage as well...I know mine is running rich plus I haven't had it tuned yet either. Mine runs good and I don't worry about it.

yeah that's how mine is with a 3 inch TBE, and i love it, especially since it's not too loud, which is surprising. and yeah mine runs rich as a bastard, i get 166miles per tank, haha which is why i rarely drive the thing

i finally did a compression test on my car. The psi is supposed to be like 178 and mine is 150. I changed the plugs and ran it pretty hard and found a small miss in my turbo. So now i have new plugs, low compression, still a lot of smoke and a small miss in the turbo.
Any ideas on what it could be?

Do you have an air/fuel ratio meter. Mine was reading lean and spitting black stuff out the tail pipe. The O2 sensor on the header was bad and the computer was richening the mixure. Gas mileage was around 17. 28mpg now. Just a thought.

i went to auto zone and had my check engine light tested and they said it was an o2 sensor. Do you think this could be it? Also someone told me to reset my ecu. would that work?

Like what emonz57 what were the compression readings on the other 3 cylinders? Also did you do a wet compression test to eliminate if its a ring problem. And what is a "miss" on the turbo?
