My 2002 Montero Sport pops when it is placed into reverse (preparing to back out of the garage). I have watched it from underneath and I'm convinced it is from the transfer case. Anyone know what it takes to repair?

the transfer case? well rebuild it or replace with a remancufactered one.but first stick or auto?
