Hey i wanna know if anyone has put twin turbos on a 3kgt SL if you have tell me how it goes. And anyone feel free to tell me if u think it will go good. I know someone is gonna say if u want twin turbos just buy a vr4 BUT the insurence for it where i live is like almost $850 every 6 months just for plpd and the SL is like $550 and for how much i would save per year i could just twin turbo the SL.
Thanks

ahhh...i would say it would be much easier to just put a single turbo rather than "twin" turbo...im not exactly postive but id say the engine has to be built to withstand that kind of power that a turbo brings... cuz i doubt the SL build could hold the 90 - 100+ hp that a VR4 has with its twin turbos...

I had the same question. I had heard that the sl was set up so you can twin turbo if you wanted to. Now if that is true or not I do not know. If it was I think that I would put a single turbo on, and not the factory size. I would put on a bigger turbo that can suport up to 20 psi and then look up what the car can safely handle and then put it at that. but like I say it is only if you can do it.

yeah im not sure. i wanna but beter turbines in the stock and **** like that. can u just put a single turbo on a V6 i dont think i have ever seen it done?
i actualy herd that the sl engine is a beter engine because i herd the vr4 is just like the base model egine w/ twin turbos and a few other stuff so it can handel the pwr. but dont take my word for that its just what i herd and i thought it made sence.

You can put a single turbo on. It just takes a special manafold. I know one guy in Kansas city M.O. that has a TT Supra and has put a single turbo on it. He has around 1,375 hp. It is just amazing. so it is possable.

but u know a supra is a inline 6 right so it would be alot easier to do then w/ a v6. i mean if it can be done i would rather just do a really big single turbo insted of twin turbos.

it is possible becouse they are both the 6g72 DOHC v6. so there may be a bit of modification but it should work and i have seen it done.

But you do realize that after 5 years, you have only saved $3000, and how much will a TT conversion cost you?
Also the VR4 will still be worth more than a TT SL...the AWD and AWS on the VR4 are what help to make the VR4 badass. Also if you wreck the TT SL and do not have your insurance upgraded to reflect the thousands of dollars in upgrades, you will only get the value of the SL. I would think about all the pros and cons first...not saying you haven't, just my 2 cents.

OK here is where I can shed some light for you guys.
I AM a FWD NA converted to TT on my stock NA 10:1 compression motor. I did it myself with a LITTLE help from a mechanic for welding. Its MUCH MUCH easier to TWIN TURBO the Na 3s than to single turbo it. EVERY part from a VR4 will bolt onto a NA and make it TT. The only REAL issue is the electronics and fuel control. it took me a long time to work that out but its very possible. I did the upgrade for the same reasons you all are pointing out, saved money on insurance, and believe it or not, got better gas mileage too! I would hope that you all would just understand thats how it works. ALSO, a boosted NA motor is faster than a stock or even BPU VR4. Sure there is a launch difference but the NA motor will reel in and pull away from the VR4. I have DONE IT and SEEN IT. No its not a driver issue. The 10:1 compression makes for more power at less boost. There are more limitations to the higher compression, but for daily driving its better IMO.
For those in here that are SERIOUS about having a FWD TT, I am selling mine in order to build another project NON TURBO Stealth. If you have questions, let me know. I CAN answer them.

I might be contacting you because my friend just bought a NA 3000GT and has some extra cash and wants to turbo it. First though I have to help her put in a manual transmission.
