I just sold my gst, and am now in like a pre-mid life crisis, lol
So I thought of this:finance an evo VIII if I find one for like 15 or 16. Then sell my car, and with that money buy a used like 04 cbr 1000 or gixxer 1000. Idk why but it feels like its time for a change in cars

That sux its $3.09 a gallon for regular for my spivic, or 2.98 when I go to my buddies station

but yeah might just get a bike now, then before winter sell the bike and my spivic and either get a truck or an evo

Dont get a bike you fool. you can only drive it like 5 months out of a year here. The civic can all the time. what about if you pop your tcase in december? your gonna take the bike to work right? Your better off keeping a beater car (the civ gets decent MPG) and use the Evo for fun time. Evos are not very good daily drivers most Evo owners love there cars but realisticly they are not great for daily use.
Bad MPG i mean really bad lol. They are clunky, rough, vibrate, un comfy, and you have to fight the car to go straight because it likes to follow the road way so on a banked corner or road with rain run off the car will pull kinda hard to the slope. Lets not forget they have weak drive train. trannys and T cases

Well that's y id get an evo for the winter. And at this point I don't think id even mod it at all. All id prolly do is get a downpipe and get a shi**y mail in tune which should bring my mpg up, so it wouldn't be runnung rich like from the factory. And about the tcase, its not like imma be beating the crap outta it. So I don't think it would crap out on me unless the previous owner did a number on it. And I was thinking worst case buy a cheap 92 thru 95 civic lx for like 500 bucks that'll make it if anything were to happen to my evo.

Yea that is a bad idea. Evos are ok in the snow. but your pretty much saying ill get an evo to ruin the car. Even if you dont mod the car you realize that the tranny will still break right? there are thousands of poeple who are blowing syncros in there cars even bone stock.
Like I said they are not very good daily driver cars. And even on a mail in the gas milage is still not that good. Buying a bike is just a friggen stupid idea in new england. Buying an Evo as you winter car is even more stupid. your pretty much saying ill have my bike as my nice weather car and an expensive car as my daily. If your looking into a bike just for the gas prices I can tell you right now you shouldnt be even thinking about buying an Evo AT ALL.
Why waiste even more money just to have a bike? or just to have an Evo? I say get one or the other. and keep the beater
lhausi2
4/6/2008 6:38:27 AM
Well no lie, gas mileage isn't really an issue cuz its either an evo or a truck, like an escalade or tahoe. And as for the tcase, if it goes it goes, all you can do is deal with it and fix it
EMonz57
4/6/2008 6:49:35 AM
Its not just the T case, its the tranny as well and the clutch ect ect. if it goes and you only have a bike good luck to you. I personally think buying both and selling the beater is the stupidest thing you can do. I mean it like what I would have wanted to do at the age of like 17 or 18 or something. is it really practical, no not even close

No lie, say I did wut ure saying, then I wouldn't even bother with an evo most likely id just get a rwd car like a supra,or 240sx or sumthing like that, that'll not be driven in the snow or rain and just at the track and sunny days.

All I can say is be realistic, esspecailly with what you can afford. yea you can buy a car down the road, can you afford to maintain a car like an Evo or supra? can you afford to have a $30k car that just sits for 70% of a year? can you afford to drive a car like an Evo every day without having a beater?
All I know is they are not cheap to buy, they are not cheap to maintain, they are not cheap to insure (for most) alot of people who do own evos cant afford it. they put themselves out just to own a car, then when things start getting used tey cant afford to repaire/replace/maintain things.
Just be realistic. You prob have no idea how many people have told me they are buying an evo or a supra. Im not only talking online but in person when they see me with my old car. Im telling you right now that prob close to 100% of the time in person this happens I just nod and rub it off, because everyone has dreams most people do not follow threw. Its like when I was trying to buuy the Evo, or when I was going to do a 50trim, or like when I was saying I was going to turbo a 3g back in 2002 (before tearstone), or like e saying I AM going to get a supra. Nobody belived me BUT I made them all happen but they were all realistic dreams for me and I wasnt making it a complete stretch.
Just because an Evo and AWD or a rally car IMO doesnt mean it should be held to a lower standard to a RWD supra. I you want to ruin an expensive car you drive it in snow and salt end of story. Why have an Evo for the winter and bike for the nice weather? Why not have a Evo for the nice and a beater for the winter?

Dude I found at least 2 evos on evoM for under 16 grand, and its not that common but not impossible to find. And im not talking about an rs either, VIII gsr's
And yeah I hear a sh**load of ppl saying they're gunna buy this and that, but never do.

And about the affording it part, there's no problem there. Since I sold my car a few weeks ago already saved up 6 grand and still going. And so what you're saying is, its stupid to have a car like that as a dd and every1 who has one is destroying it cuz of the salt and so, especially in mass? And wuts the point of having a car like that to only take out when its nice out, that's the same thing as having a bike

It is not the same as having a bike. You were saying get a bike and an Evo. talk logical man- think this threw it is a completely retarded concept. Buy a bike for nice weather sell the "winter beater" then get a very expensive car to destroy in the horrible weather. I do absolutly belive that everyone who drives there cars in salt is ruining them. How many full time winter DSMs do you see these days that are nice? ZERO they are all falling apart and rotting from the ground up just ask TheEngineer his TSiAWD was so rotted that the motor mounts were rotting threw. So what I am saying why buy a nice expensive car to drive for those purposes? you know that makes no sence. LIKE I SAID get one or the other and keep the beater. Dont be a freaking retard just because you want both

yeah i see your point, and it takes more than a year or two to destroy it, but my gst was like that, there was sum rot on it and stuff. the only that sux with that theory is, that when i finance an evo,say i do, that i'd have to have full coverage on it, even tho it's off the road 90% of the time, which is wut i thought was straight up retarded and had to do with my gst, it's just money down the drain. idk might just buy sumthin' and do it up, as a track car, or just get an evo and keep it stock and garaged and saved for nice weekends
and about the logic thing, like 30 sec after writing it i noticed how retarded it was, lmao

the bolded sentance is what brings us back to paying for the car and maintanence. if your gonna complain bout a few hundred dollars or insurence for a car you really should just drive a cheaper car or suck it up lol

yeah that's tru, no matter wut dude, i could be holding 10 grand in my hand i'll still say i'm broke, just a habit of mine, lol

I'm in nw PA where the salt is constantly on the road in the winter months and it rains a lot so my GS-T is in the garage allllllll the time...it doesn't come out in the snow or rain...Weather sucks here....I have a beater for the winter and crappy weather, a '96 Jeep Cherokee..I'm very anal about keeping my ride nice because of all the money dumped into it...My philosophy, if you pay all that money for something nice then why not keep it that way? You can get "seasonal" inusrance if you store the car in the winter, it's up to the insurance company and the lender whether they'll let you or not since there is a lien on the vehicle...so pick up a beater for a couple grand and keep that Evo looking sweet and out of the sh!tty weather....Also, I looked into buying an '03 Evo with 23,000 miles on it this past summer...The car was sooooo nice, not a mark on it and very mild and minor mods...the dealer wanted $23,995 RETAIL for it and with me using my special sales skills I was able to get him down to $20,500 but from that price he wasn't putting sh!t on my ride so I decided to just keep mine and will for a long time so that's why I had a hard time believing someone can get a nice decent Evo for 15-16 grand.

yeah i found a few between 15 and 16.5, and they're all nice too and not beat to sh**. and yeah maybe i'll just do that, if my wifey lets me store my car in ehr garage

,lol

Shreff dont be mistaken. With the market how it is now and the Evo X out now the VIIIs are dirt cheap. Why to you think I sold without batting an eye? I say it comeing, I actually sold JUST IN TIME. the prices had come down already close to $2-$3k on used Evos. I mean to the point where a stock VIII with like 40k is selling for like $$19-$20k. when a year before that they were prob selling at that milage like $24k or more even

The market does crazy things to the used car business sometimes. These used '07/08 crown vics and grand marquis LS's we get as program vehicles with usually around 15,000 miles from the Ford Factory auction are a car that sticker brand new in the 30 grand to 31 grand range but since there isn't that huge of a market on that car it is a vehicle we can sell in the 16,000 ish range so a customer can save a huge amount buyong one of those program cars over new any day and that's the way I would go too and that's with me being a Ford employee...Just an example of how the used car market and depreciation is now.
