When to shift into all wheel

Just a random question I have. I always switch any suv or truck from 2 wheel drive to all wheel or 4x4 in neutral. What would happen with a 07 outlander if you switched into all wheel drive driving?

It would shift into 4 wheel drive.
 
I've cycled mine through all three positions while doing 30-50 k... no problems.

If you weren't supposed to switch on the fly there would be huge warnings all over the place. I switch mine any time I need to. I don't use the 2WD mode, too much torque steer and no real mileage benefit.
