Ok so yesterday i cut back my Blow off valve dump tube in the stock airtake
and then took my car out for a drive, started boosting for about 5 seconds and my car starts to sound like a damn Kazoo... car still seems to be boosting ok (cant be sure stock boost gage) and is still quick. One thing i noticed though is i no longer hear the Pssshtt sound...
any idea's?
Is my turbo dead? is my blow off valve dead? Am i?
oh, the sound only happens under boost.
99 mitsubishi gst
107k miles
everything is still stock
I also just replaced the the pcv valve at the same time, but i doubt that has to do with anything
help!

Probably just the BOV. Never heard of it making that noise before, but from what you described it doesnt seem like it would be the turbo. But let me get this straight as to what you did to the dump tube. It is no longer running to the intake but just plugged off?

No, its still running to the intake just Cut it down so it wouldnt be restricting airflow going into turbo...
but anyway I think it is my turbo.... just took a picture
http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/5905/simran027mq3.jpg Maybe a piece of plastic broke off and went into the blade...
what do u guys think?
And can i fix this?

nope... the stock turbo is junk anyway... so its not worth anything to fix it.
I think a small stone or something got in there becaue plastic wouldnt do that.
Well as i always say... breakage is just an excuse for upgrade!

That sucks bro. Ya these T25's are crappy turbos anyway. Plus it'd cost you almost as much to get a new stock turbo as it would to get a bigger turbo. I hear the stock turbos on teh 1st gens are much better turbos. (though ask around to make sure my info is correct)

Yea your right poot but still they are along the same lines and you need to make a couple mods for the install.

actually the t 25 doesnt suck if u know how to drive and not run to high of a boost then u can run 13's with a "****ty stock turbo" ha thas what im doin ..and it runs perfect ...but if its broke then u might upgrade..i know a web site were u can upgrade to a bigger and better turbo that will bolt on derectly to ur stock manifold...

Give the guy a break, he's just trying to help and he's a newb so may not know what the extent of knowledge is here.

Ouch! that sucks. Well that turbo is basically junk now. No use in even trying to repair it. For the amount you would spend repairing you could just get a new one. There are plenty of things you could do to replace that one. Just buy a new T-25 or there are alot of turbos that use the stock mani. Some modification might be needed to get them to work correcty but its all up to how much money you got.

ya, don't slang on someone helping. The T3/T4 is a great turbo to upgrade to if you don't have the money to do all the upgrades for the 16G. Though the 16G will have higher horsepower gains. Or, go simple and get a T25 or 14B. W/E.

Thanks for sticking up for the little guy, us newbs can use some looking out for. Older members get hostile. I agree, the T-25 is a GOOD turbo, but with the mark up in mitsubishi, you could get a Bigger turbo for a better price.

since we're on the subject of turbo replacement, what is the best turbo to go for if you want around 300-310 HP? including the fact with a FMIC, and all the additional upgrades to hold the turbo without the engine malfunctioning and no lights turning on from the ECU?

a GT28R (AKA the T28 Killer or the Disco Potato)
The GT28R if you want fast spool
Or a 16g that takes a little longer to spool
Just to let you know its not actually the turbo that causes the CEL... its the exhaust

is there an exhaust sensor? and if so where is it?
Sebba
10/4/2006 4:39:12 PM
its the last O2 sensor in the exhaust (after the cat).. .and there is a thread on ehre that explains how you can stop the CEL from coming on by using 2 spark plug foul protectors. And that only happens when you have a 3" exhaust or sometimes it can happen when you run the car without the cat. Although it wont actually cause you any problems...

So yeah, where do you guys recommend i should go from here now that my turbo is ****.
Should i go for a inexpensive used t-25?(if anyone has one pm me) try to save up some cash for a bigger turbo?
sell the car? haha just kidding
Keep in mind that im a college student and can't really bring in more than $300 a week.
but give me some feed back
TheEngineer

really if i were you id would just replace it. I know whats its like trying to get money together in college an it was never easy. Save your money for now and just get another t-25 for now.

True That. I'm a 20 yr old in college driving one of these lovely DSMs. Damn things like to break down every other friggin week (or is that just mine? lol!)
This expenses can add up, so like the engineer said, find an inexpensive T25 or maybe even a 14B from a 1st gen and drop that in. Your car will still be fast and it'll run. With the amount of money us college kids have (unless mommy and daddy are loaded and sharing the wealth.) that's the best thing we can do.
