Hi guys,
I am from Australia and it's quite interesting to know some of the features of Outlanders from different countries. Mine is called VRX which is equivalent to US/Canada XLS. It's also the top of the line V6 and includes standard Rockford Fosgate sounds system, Rear entertainment DVD, reverse sensor, leather seats, bluetooth, carpet mats, AWD on demand system, cargo cover, one touch push button control to fold the second seats, standard 3rd row seats and FAST key.
Sad thing though is we cannot option the sunroof if you got 7 seats becuase of the standard rear entertainment DVD. But as same in the States/Canada, accessories here are quite hard to get even on ebay. I even have to get some rear body side garnish from zontarh. I'll post some pics of the Aussie Outlander once I installed the garnish. I got also some tricks to make the third row seats more comfy for the young ones.

The RSE install kit actually comes in two versions, one for "w/ sunroof" and the other for "w/o sunroof". I guess it was a marketing decision why Mitsubishi left out the option for sunroof in your market. Same story would be true why they left out a long list of options for the NA market like the backup camera, front camera, parking sensors, one-touch fold switch for second row, heated side mirrors, RDS on the MMCS, etc..

The HIDs aren't standard on the XLS..but the luxury package that includes them is required to get the sun and sound and vice versa
I need to check my side mirrors..I loved the heated mirrors when I had the Jetta..didn't realize how nice they were until I didn't have them with my VUE

Hi Sherwood and other members,
I also live in Canada (Winnipeg) and have the U.S. version of the 2005 XLS.
First of all it did NOT have heated review mirrors, so I had them installed.
I would like to know the colour of the Speedo/Rev cluster on a 2005 XLS on the Canadian model, mine are silver and would like to change it to KMH, but according to the dealer they only come in black.

i like to buy (as canadian) the us model because they have the sand interior. I can not understand why it is not available in canada!!!
Also the price in the us is lower. But i have to take in mind that their is a 6,1% import duty.
And I think you pay the tps and provincial tax on the value of a canadian outlook

The dollar is pretty weak especially in the last few months, would that make it more attractive to buy a US Spec? 1 USD = 1.06 CAD, or 1 CAD = .94 USD. 5 years ago, a CAD was worth 63 cents

Where do you live derumeaux? How about block heaters, does the US version come with one?

In Quebec. I never had a blockheater on my car.
But if I buy a us car I like to change the speedometer from miles to kms.
What regarding the warranty? Is it valid in canada

As far as the warranty is concerned, it does not seem to be valid in Canada if you import from the US. I am in the same situation, US model is about 5000 cheaper including all fees, but warranty will not be honoured. At least according to the mitsubishi US website warranty information.

Cross border warranty work on Japanese vehicels has always been an issue - if you are lucky and you live close to the border, you may be able to get warranty work in the US - I have seem this work with Jap M/C's but autos may be different - defintiely YMMV. You most likely will need to get the dealar and Mits USA to agree.
Yeah it sucks buying Canadian vehicels when the dollar is almost at par but IMO it is philiosophical:
1. If it was ten years ago with a 65 cent dollar, the situation is almost revered.
2. Quit comparing the Canadian price to US price and go back to the REAL relevant comparisons - agaisnt the competition - think about how Canadian BMW X5 buyers feel compared to their US compatriats - they are getting screwed even harder so quit complaining, buy the damn car and drive the hell out of it! You'll defintiely feel better!

How easy is it to import cars into or from Canada? In the UK we can buy a car anywhere in Europe we get at least 12 months warranty but we have a problem to do this. With Europe having LHD cars most dealers must by law have to provide RHD cars when new. Cars companies don't like us saving money so when request a RHD car in a european dealer they come up with extra long delivery dates i.e. up to 12 months. I used to get round this by buying 3 month old cars from the Channel Islands they are RHD UK spec.
I once went with a friend to collect is brand new Lotus Elise from Belgium he saved over £4000 yet I only lived 10 min from where is car was built Hethel near Norwich UK The UK has always been the dearest country in the world to buy a car my outlander would cost $42000 in the USA, so they give us a few extras. I am glad that I lease my cars instead of putting up cash
The reason why we get the diesel engine is because UK has the highest duty in the world on fuel I pay $ 2 per litre you only pay that per gallon and USgallons are larger the UK gallons
