PO441 initiated by warranty type 'E' major service

I tow a 3000 lb pop-up trailer with my 2006 Endeavor and we carry two Kayaks on top. It tows well and has never given any problems. I took it in to a local dealership for 96,000 km type 'E' major service at 104,000 km this past Tuesday. Upon my request they also power flushed the transmission and replaced the oil. I picked it up after a hit for 2000+ dollars (cdn). About 1 day later, the check engine light went on.

My wife takes it back the next day and they did an diagnostic check that came back with code PO441. They explained it had to do with emission system and that the 2000 km road trip we needed to do this weekend would not hurt the Endeavor. They cleared the code, road tested and the alarm did not come back on till we took it home.

I took it back today and the mechanic explained that the engine code could be ingnored related to this diagnostic code until next week when they could do a thorough check through. He said it might be a fuel filter issue. I normally use regular unleaded fuel but decided to try premium to see if this would help. It took four tries to start the vehicle. This has never happened before. Can I drive it 2000 km without doing damage. I'll take it back next week.

P0441 is an evap code and has nothing to do w/ your fuel filter. Make sure the gas cap is seated properly.

Survived 2000+ kms ...

Went on our trip, but had problems with vehicle starting every time we filled up (had to turn over engine for about a minute till it caught, steping on the pedal helped after it caught). Once running had no problems starting till next fill-up. As part of the service, the dealer replaced all the belts including the timing belt, replaced the plugs and flushed the transaxle since I did a lot of towing. Is it possible that one of the fuel line hoses were disconnected and now leak to allow air into the fuel line so that it bleeds back into the tank when the cap is removed. I am hoping I do not need a new fuel pump.

If the fuel cap is bad would it not have problems starting after sitting for a while as well?

I am having the same problem with my 2005 Outlander. Can you tell me how it was eventually fixed? I have replaced the purge solenoid in the engine bay but the code returned.
