you can't put a weight distribution bar on the Outlander. Because it's a cross over and doesn't have a full frame the stress is to high. You shouldn't need one for a tent trailer anyway. I tow a tent trailer with mine and there is very little sag.
I know the answer because I called Mitsu Canada and asked them.

Curt manufacturing
Curt manufacturing makes a class 3 hitch for the outlander. It is rated for 3500lbs non-weight distributing and 4000lbs with weight distribution. Of course you can use a weight distributing hitch on a unibody vehicle. I regularily tow a 3700lbs hybrid travel trailer with my sienna and it is unibody. Many people tow much larger trailers with unibody vehicles. The outlander has the same 6 bolt mounting system as most other unibody vehicles to mount the hitch receiver.
Every one of these is unibody with the same tow ratings as the outlander:

You'll be fine with the popup camper and the outlander. Get some airbags for the rear springs if you want a bit of extra leveling help. I use a Reese trunion system with 200 to 600lbs spring bars.

is a mixture of blond receptionists and blithering idiots. You may not need one for a tent trailer(try a set of airbags in the rear coils), but that doesn't mean you can't use a WDH system. Many unibody vehicles are more than capable of towing with a WDH system.

Towing
Hello I'm new in this chat.
The reason I bought the outlander V6 is to start going out camping and tow some recreational vehicles like pop up trailer that my friend owns but is not using. Any way it is 2200 pounds trailer that should work with my 2008 Mits Outlander. Guess what I was very disappointed to acknowledge that after attaching that trailer to my class III hitch it dropped my end and i had about 1inch left before my rear fender will touch the tire and i didn't have my equipment and family in my car yet. That’s ok i said and took it for a test drive i could feel any wave that was on the highway the trailer bounced and the car had no problem pulling it but i didn't feel to have any control over this trailer.
Can somebody give me advise what to do?

I have a tent trailer around 2300 lbs.
i have electric brake on the trailer, it's help a lot.
But i don't understand why we can't put somethings to tow until 3500 lbs.
i like my outlander, but for towing........I'm disappointed
I read in specialised magazine on RV, that Hyunday santa fe (2007, 2008 and 2009) have the same problem.
you can't put weight distribution bar because the hitch is fix with only 4 bolts.
an another fact, Hyunday santa fe before 2007 can put weight distribution bar because the hitch is fix with 6 or 8 bolts.
How many bolts hold the hitch on the outlander ????
I think that i can broke my rear suspension if i tow my tent trailer like this.

I have 2008 Outlander and it has 3 bolts on each side which makes a total of 6 for the whole hitch. Manufacture is Hidden Hitch and it is class III with 500 lb tounge rate which should be plenty. The problem i have is the shocks. I called Monroe manufacture that makes air shocks and they don't have anything for my car. i also called streetbeatcustoms.com and they also don't have anything that will work. I need some advise and maybe someone have modify their shocks to be stronger and didn't void manufacture warranty.

forget air shocks, their volume is too low
you can get airbags that fit inside the rear coils of the outlander. The firestone coilrite 4106 kit should fit and has been used by someone here. The number shown by firestone is 4182.

I installed a set on my sienna in about 1.5 hours. the outlander shouldn't take longer.

I already order it, around 130 $ canadian.....115-120 $ us.
I have some good comment about that product.
When it will be installed, I will make some comments on the forum.
Thanks TCP
